3. Libraries actually help the bottom line
It's called word of mouth, free advertisement, free samples. Somone who reads a book in a library may one day be the one to buy books by that author in a bookstore.

Publishers should be thrilled that a larger audience is being introduced to their authors. Every new reader is a potential future buyer. Of course, they're too stupid to see that.
