stupid assed question about something he said on MTP.

Repuke commentator: General Clark you made another mistake yesterday when you said Iraq was only a sideshow.... Should you be criticizing the war when men and women are dying over there?

Clark: :wtf: I will be over there in five minutes. Have your boxing gloves on 'cause Im'mo kick your natural ass!

Clark didn't let him get away with squat! For those who say he doesn't have passion they need to watch this.

I was sickened by the behavior of the interviewer, it was, in no way, an interview, it was an attempt to smear Clark once again. He failed!

6. Good to see him fired up..
and telling off that smug reporter. For those who can't get the link to work, the "interviewer" was asking about what Clark said in his Meet the Press interview where he stated that Iraq was a distraction and a side show from the real war on terror. The Fox news guy was trying to twist the words "side show" into some sort of disrespect for the troops. Clark called him on it and told him that he better not dare to twist his words into disrespect for the men and women in uniform.

Way to go Wes!

..the fact that Clark is technically the hardest Dem candidate to smear, and the fact that he is most likely to actually withstand the attacks and actually atack the attacker, you realize that he's the only man capable of defeating the rightwing spin/lie/propaganda machine. Or, at least I have. Theres no question in my mind that the media, even Fox, will almost be on his side within a few months. Mark my words.

He is mentally disturbed, and his vicious, overly defensive attack on a patriotic Fox reporter proves that he belongs in a federal institution, not the White House" - Bill O'Reilly, on a future segment.

54. The difference
Clark comes off as a reasonable man who has refused to dis other Democratic candidates because he is focusing on the real enemy.

Clark wouldn't have called the Congress he will have to work with in the future "cockroaches."

Clark served for decades for this country, he truly empathizes with the troops, and he was justifiably furious and offended when the Faux anchor tried to twist his words on a subject that is so dear to him.

58. FauxNews Questions: A Lesson in Biased media
The questions asked of General Clark in the interview. LOL. And this passes as reporting. Note all the opinion that goes into the questions and the provocative misstatements <"you make more mistakes than some people">, intentional misrepresentations <"you really think the Iraq is ONLY a sideshow?>, attempts to reframe questions he had already debunked in General Clark's answers <"while our men and women are dying">, and efforts to dismiss the correct characterization of a politicized hit by FauxNews <"we were just repeating your own words...I'm sorry they offended you">

So here are the real questions. Amazing.

Who talked you into this?

Did Bill Clinton have the deciding vote in you running?

You're not a politician at heart. You make more mistakes then some people and so they thrown them back at you. One thing you said yesterday--and maybe it wasnt a mistake but it caught our attention--you said on Meet the Press ....You really think Iraq is ONLY a side show?

Well, let me just ask you. Do you think Newsweek knows where UBL is and they aren't telling the world?

But to call a...while our men and women... yeah...General while out men and women are dying in Iraq, is it proper to call it a sideshow?

General, I'm just repeating your own words to you. Didn't you say the war in Iraq was a sdideshow?

There is nothing but respect ne should have for your military career. As the father of a marine, there is only respect. But I just wanted to know what you meant by calling it a shideshow. I just want to know your meaning.

Alright General. Again, we were just repeating your statement and your words and I'm sorry that they offended you.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out that was an O'Reilly-ism, a fiction cobbled up on the spur of the moment in order to grasp at the moral high-ground, but actually complete bullshit. It could be true, of course, but given that it was Fax I certainly don't believe it merely on the guy's word.

66. Beautiful!
That's what I'm talking about! That is the man we need to take these people on. What a beautiful piece of work, he will not stand for their bullshit. He knows what the're doing and he won't play the game, and he calls them on it without hesitation. That's the best thing I've seen since Mary Landrau went off on Orin Hatch during the talkathon! The fox viewers will eat this up. A lot of them are just folks who are looking for somebody who comes off as a strong leader. That's what they say they like about Bush. "Clarks is a man who will stand up for himself and for his troops and so he'll sure as shit stand up for me" that's what they'll be thinking. Please let him be on fox again very soon! :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast: :toast:

67. I am not a violent person
Edited on Mon Nov-17-03 06:42 PM by Donna Zen
...and I've never pointed this out because there are certainly those here who might think badly of Clark if this information came to light. But I wish that this interview had been in the studio, because the General was first trained as an Army Ranger. And damn it...Faux pea-brains need to stop and think twice before questioning a person honor. Just who the fuck do they think they are? Oh sure, violence begets violence; however, watching that Faux-creep earn his monthly bonus for the lowly act of character assassination changes one's perspective. Let me see him try that while within an arm's length of Wesley Clark.

</testosterone rant>

Who the hell was that fool? I don't get Faux News on my cable, but suspect that this crap and not Confederate flags is the real issue. The repubs should be made to claim the entire budget for Faux on their FEC filings.

68. Re-airing part of interview right now on Hume
Here's what the pundocracy says on "Special Report":

Kondrake: When reporter, whose son is a marine, hears sideshow, he thinks of troops. He thought this was about Clark's dedication to troops.

Liason: He has a perfectly legitimate reason to say this is a sideshow, but he was trigger happy here because he was ready to be questioned on his patriotism.

Barnes: Who is calling him unpatriotic? If Newsweek knows where UBL is, it's because they were told by the gov't.

*generic talk about Newsweek article*

Liason: This was Clark's inartful way of saying that others know where UBL is and that Clark would do things differently.

Hume: I had never heard Saudi Arabia has an effective group of commandos. Is it over for this guy?

Liason: Now that he's campaigning, he's not doing so well.

OK. So the most "liberal" of the panelists, the demonic Mara Liason, thinks Clark was just looking to be pissed; the three freepers are entirely predictable. Guess Faux needed to spin HARD to get the desired results.

I was just able to listen to the interview.

What a weasle that Fox guy was! His back pedalling didn't work for me. I can see Fox listeners seeing it the opposite. But I don't think they'd be looking to fall in behind Clark anyhow.

I'm glad we got the chance to see Clark's fiery side. Interesting that he never loses his laser beam intellect when he's angry. And he has his own line drawn in the sand. Fox now knows where it is. They can't get away with Clark what they get away with other guests.

Now they can say that Dean and Clark both have tempers. Well, good! They have red hot American blood in their veins and that's a good thing. After watching Braun deal with Tweety last night, I can once again say how proud I am of our candidates. "Sorry lot" my patooty.

71. I could see myself voting for Clark very easily.
He did not allow the Foxnews man to get away with any cheap insinuations, and did not allow him to play innocent. "Is it right to call Iraq a sideshow when our troops are being killed?" He reacted to it right away clearly, directly, and boldly.

Fox News has got some set of balls. Digging at a man who should be in the dictionary next to the word 'soldier'.

Think any interviewer's gonna go down the sideshow road on their program. You bet your ass they're not.

Clark keeps doing this and he'll have my vote--because ti shows he understand what KKarl understands. The media are lazy, careerist, amoral, unethical thugs, and the only way to stop them from fucking you is fucking them back.

and holy sh*t does he rip asman and fox a new one...

right at the beginning asman starts with "who talked you into this" with a strange inflection in his voice hinting that Clark was hiding something

then asman brought up Clinton predictably

when asman tried to twist Clark's words about Iraq being a sideshow to the war on terror - implying that Clark was being disrepectful of the troops, Clark just hammers him down

asman tries to stay coy and smug and say that he was just reading Clark's words back to him, but Clark hold's his asman's feet to the fire..and asman knows he's been beaten by a superior human being by the end...

RIGHT ON, WES!

Too bad I couldn't get the video from the FOX site (why is this not surprising?... they're probably too embarrassed to show it!), so I listened to the mp3 someone else thoughtfully provided. I would have loved to have seen their faces, but... eh... what can you do when FOX is busy hiding behind Bush's skirts again.

It wasn't just the absurd questions that "Assman" asked that pissed me off, but the sickening display of his attempts to talk over the interviewee... just where the hell did this bozo learn interviewing skills anyway? You NEVER talk over the interviewee no matter what they may be saying... they could be jabbering in a foreign tongue or using profanity, but you NEVER talk over them! How grossly unprofessional of the "Assman"!

I think we should flood FOX with letters about how disgusting that "interviewer" was and applauding Clark's not allowing that turd to talk over him or try spanking him with typical "FAUX" right wing vomit.

P.S.: "Assman"... how very appropriate!

127. i concur
that's exactly what i was thinking as i viewed the video clip . . . what kind of "interviewer" tries to shout down his guest? not only is it rude, it's unethical! as cynical as this sounds I couldn't help but think that that callous skunk David Asman had pushed his stupid kid into the marines so he could garner an iota of credibility insofar as his egregious warmongering went! what a shitheel!
but again, engaging in pissing matches with one's *honored guest* is standard practice on a lot of these state-sanctioned tv/radio news shows, and definitely indicative of the marred professionalism of modern mass media . . . i don't know whether or not Wes Clark emerged from this interview entirely unscathed but i certainly hope a lot viewers' opinions of the journalistic integrity of Fox didnt! x(

122. Good to see Wes punching, but this is the way Fox treats Dem candidates...
Trot out a few horsesh** questions, twist words, etc., then let the Democrat defend, defend, defend.

I loathe Faux and the RW media, and I enjoyed seeing Clark take a bite out of them, but the Democratic candidates must be able to do more than come from a position of defense.

A fine candidate like Clark can be too easily dismissed as a hothead by the undecided voter when depicted only in this manner.

This is a specific problem that confronts the Democrats -- getting past the RW media. It's tough, because their game is rigged.

124. Clark was way over the top
Absolutely over reacted to a minor bit of spin instead of calmly setting the Faux Newz guy straight. Clark never made his point clear as to exactly what he was objecting to. Clark partisans and Faux Newz despising progressives will eat it up but the rest of the country will see it ans ask "What the hell is he so mad about? This guy is a hothead."

Clark blew it. It was bad, bad, bad. If it had been Dubya or Dean who blew up that way...

I, and a huge majority of Democrats, think its ABOUT GODDAMN TIME somebody got in Fox's face. This will do nothing but help Clark. Give'em hell, General, and don't let any panty-waists in your campaign shut you up. You're one of the two REAL voices in this campaign (the other being Howard Dean).

Anyone who doesn't like what Clark said, deserves the contempt that Fox deals out. I, for one, am tired of sitting back and taking their shit!

128. Clark still seems genuinely surprised by the media whores
The reason he gets so mad is perhaps because he seems to be genuinely astonished by these underhanded, innuendo gotcha tactics. Russert tried to do something similar with Clark on Sunday, regarding his trip to testify at Milovec's trial. Russert starts out by asking him who requested he testify, obviously setting him up to imply that the whole trip was a political stunt. You could almost see the gasp on Clark's face as it dawned on him what Russert was getting at.

MR. RUSSERT: Speaking of war criminals, Mr. Milosevic is now on trial in The Hague, and I understand that you have been requested to play a role in that trial?
GEN. CLARK: That’s right, Tim. I’m going to be going over there 15, 16 December to testify. When I was the supreme allied commander, and before that, when I was on the Joint Staff, I spent dozens, maybe 150 hours or so, with Slobodan Milosevic. I saw him at every state of the negotiations, beginning in the summer of 1995, and on through—and then again in the build-up to Kosovo. I’ve told about some of it in
my first book, but these are conversations that the prosecutor says would be significant. And I think this is very important. I think it’s my duty to go there. This is a historic trial. It’s the first time we’ve really held a head of state accountable like this. And I’m proud to be doing that under international law.
MR. RUSSERT: Who requested that you go?
GEN. CLARK: The prosecutor.
MR. RUSSERT: Has the United States government approved your trip?
GEN. CLARK: They have.
MR. RUSSERT: Who has?
GEN. CLARK: The secretary of state has approved this and, of course, the Pentagon, because I was acting in an official capacity. So I’ll have a Department of Defense lawyer and State Department lawyers with me.
MR. RUSSERT: What will you say about Milosevic?
GEN. CLARK: Well, whatever they ask me, I’ll tell them the truth about the conversations. This is about what Milosevic knew, when he knew it, what his intent was, how he viewed situations, how he operated. There’s a lot of circumstantial evidence that I bring, plus maybe more than that in some cases.
MR. RUSSERT: Are you prepared for suggestions that this is part of a political campaign for president, a photo opportunity?
GEN. CLARK: Well, if you’re suggesting that, it’s simply not true. This has been in the process for some time, and we’ve been negotiating with them for some time. And I thought, frankly, I was off the hook on this, but they came back in July and said that, you know, I would have to testify sometime during the fall, and it continued to slip until now; it’s December.
MR. RUSSERT: And you’ll have to take some time off the campaign trail to do this?
GEN. CLARK: That’s right. That’s exactly right.

I am sure partisan Democrats and Clark supporters everywhere loved his childish loss of control and coherence but the average voter seeing it would just go "WTF?"

If this had been Dubya or Dean you'd be singing a different tune.

Sorry, Clark blew it. Deal with it.

You think we should quietly sit back and let the trash impugn our patriotism and question our motives without fighting back?

We've tried the playbook of President Dukakis before. That brought us Bush I. Gore was too kind for too long and we got Bush II. I'm not ready for a 3rd Bush term.

Clark played the game to a tee. The guy kept coming at him trying to undermine his life's work by shamefully twisting the "side show" remark. Clark showed passion and integrity, and never once "lost coherence." He stood up for himself and refused to be bullied by the propaganda meisters. There's a feisty guy who is sitting as governor in California, if you hadn't noticed. The "average voter" likes people who stand up for themselves - particularly when their life's work is turned in to a smarmy political game. Clark rocked. You deal.

Hmmm...that sounds awful close to Dubya's simple minded "you are for us or you are against us" style of thinking.

Clark could have stood his ground and calmly made his point. Instead, whatever point he may have had was drowned like a rat in a sea of rising temper. Clark performed well only if you're a partisan Democrat. For anyone else, he acted like a child. That ought to give you pause.

I have seen Dean get really fired up at rallies, but I haven't seen him get nearly this angry during an interview. I don't disagree that Clark had the right to be angry and to strike back, but I do think that if this had been Dean, most here praising Clark would have been TRASHING him for losing his temper. Of course, we all have a measure of loyalty to our candidates, and I'd expect nothing less from you all than to be thrilled that he stood up to the jackass reporter. I'm just saying think about this post the next time you accuse Dean of "melting down."

u see, Clark was shot 4 times while in Vietnam. This anchor twisted his words in an effort to start another smear campaign, typical of FAUX News. Clark put him in his place as needed.

With Dean's outburst on the other hand, it comes from the same place as this reporters. A "Childish" mouthing off. Something you expect from a guy who while Clark was in Vietnam, was taking ( in his words ) 1 year off to go skiing before attending college.

130. It helped Clark
Most important, it helped him with a big segment of the activist Democratic base, which is essential to winning Democratic primaries. Clark needs volunteers out there beating the bushs (pun intended) for him. He needs more people to get fired up to work for him more now than he needs the approval of some more temporate middle of the roaders. Clark gets plenty of oportunities to appear reasonable and balenced. Activists have been asking if Clark had the passion needed to take it to the Republicans. I never had any doubt about that. Once Clark signs onto a mission, he is fully committed. But many activists new to Clark haven't seen the firey resolve that he used to face down a dictator before. Clark can take on Rowe. Now that his fund raising is in gear, he will start being able to create his own platforms to speak from. If he gets the nomination he will have more than enough access to the public to throw Republican slander back into their faces as it deserves.

Whatever point he might have hoped to make was completely obscured by his intemperate outburst. Where you saw passion, I saw a four star prima donna that couldn't keep it together long enough to set the Faux Newz dude straight. It was an embarassment. The best thing for Clark would be for this to just fade away. Good for him that it will.

FAUX News skunks straight. You HAVE to go for the juggler. How do you think they've gotten to where they are? By spewing their RW rhetoric at every Dem who ever appears on their shows. They twist statements and repeat, repeat, repeat and repeat until their sheeple believe it. Like that asshole tried to do with Clark. A FAUX program following that interview continued disecting what Clark said and repeated the rhetoric. They always get away with it because no-one has the balls to set them straight like Clark did. You KNOW that the "FAUX Daily Morning Memo" more than likely gave orders to go after Clark for his remark on MTP? That shill was doing Roger Ailes and Murdoch's bidding. NO, Clark was correct in fighting back. We all have to fight back when they throw out their piles of RW rhetoric shit! FAUX NEWS isn't called "FAUX" for no reason.
