TNR article: Dean faction vs. Clinton faction
I'll bet this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it. If this has already been dealt with, please direct me to the thread.

http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?pt=usC0OT1J1Ei9uUghMPGTwx%3D%3D

Excerpts:

...The division in the party over Dean is less about ideology than about power. Three years after Bill Clinton left office, he and Hillary still control what remains of a Democratic establishment...

...Dean, by contrast, has come to represent the party's anti-establishment forces. While the other candidates, especially former self-styled front-runner John Kerry, started the campaign by wooing party leaders, Dean built a grassroots army first--in part by bashing D.C. Democrats and their disastrous 2002 election strategy--and is only now leveraging his fund-raising power to win over establishment types...

... As the party's split into Deaniacs and anti-Dean Clintonites unfolds, one of the most intriguing subplots concerns the machinations of Gore. Immediately after the Florida recount was decided in 2000, Gore's senior aides were purged from the DNC and Clinton's were installed. Some ex-Gore staffers are still bitter about the coup, and several express admiration for what Dean is doing...

2. This is how Deanies start and spread myth about Kerry....
while Dean himself was an ULTIMATE insider as head of the NGA and longtime DLCer who was instrumental in PULLING the Dem party firther to the RIGHT throughout his career as governor.

Yet here's what the Dean camp spreads about Kerry:

29. Issues are irrelevant in a political campign.

Only the perception matters. Kerry is a Bush enabler and corrupt Washington insider. In case you had not noticed, that is the current great sin in politics. Being an insider, "typical politician." By 2008, it may be something else, but right now that is THE worst thing a candidate can be seen as. Kerry is seen as such, and therefore his campaign is dead. Finito. Belly up. Pushing up daises. Out to pasture. Passed on. The Kerry campaign's inability to recognize this trend and adapt to it only shows that he would be equally rigid and uncreative as President, which is why he will never BE President.

get it?

3. I think, if a division forms, it will be over ideology, not power.
Dean is, ideologically, very different from the Democrats who whave gone before him. And I think it would be very much in the character of the TNR to attempt to gloss over the ideological differences between Dean and the other Democrats.

4. How so?
How is Dean's ideology different from any other Dems? I can't detect any particular ideology coming from Dean, never mind one that's somehow different.
