BBV: petition to encourage moveon.org to support HR2339
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 12:26 PM by creativelcro
I know... It does not solve all the problems etc... But, here it is...

From the Agonist:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A new petition has just been created to encourage moveon.org to support HR2339. Thus far, it only has 7 signatures. Please spread the word. Thanks to Soros' and Lewis' recent generous contributions, they now have plenty of resources to expose this issue.

1. Excellent, we need to get MoveOn behind this critical bill!
Don't be afraid, sign up and lets get the word out, HR2239 needs support NOW. It is time for MoveOn to step up and take point on this very hot topic.

2. I dont like the part that says I will no longer support moveon.org
unless you support this bill. I didn't sign because of that.

3. Oh come on.
MoveOn has IGNORED this issue, my father has written them numerous times and I know others have as well. Voting issues are an extremely big topic on their actionforums, they have not payed attention.

Why support something that isn't listening to its members? We *NEED* HR2239 to get through and be passed before this legislative session is over. MoveOn has the backing and membership to make a HUGE difference on this critical issue. But they need to listen to their backers and step up to the plate.

If our vote doesn't have the added protections that HR2239 provides, then we just may be looking at another 4 years of Shrub.

The topic has been discussed so many times on their board! And a ton of people have written to them... Not sure why they haven't picked this up... -CV

5. I signed, #17
but would prefer a softer stance. Threats get you no place and the last thing we need to do is divide the membership of Moveon over this issue. That does not win us friends.

6. I see your point
If everybody who wants their issue taken up by moveon withdrew their support, then it would be a problem... There are many issues, and so much time and resources... but i truly believe this has been a huge issue, that for some reason they have not looked at... -CV

7. Have got to do something to get their attention.
They've ignored everyone so far..

Drastic times call for drastic measures.

8. The problem is this...
MoveOn is working with the ACLU to reverse the Patriot Act. ACLU opposes the implementation of printing paper ballot on DREs. MoveOn does not wish to alienate the ACLU.

So... Get ACLU to revise their opinion on this, and you likely get MoveOn without a fuss... Ya might even start to sway LWV as a result as well.
