Which of these 3 new books do you think I should buy?
Hey I can afford one book right now and ive narrowed it down to three. Please help me which one I should choose
1) Micheal Moore, Dude Weres My Country?
2) Molly Ivins, Bushwacked
3) Al Franken, Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them

(forgive me for spelling or title errors)

So can anyone help me decide? Im leaning on Dude Weres My Country because im a big Micheal Moore fan. thanks, Jason

1. A Prayer for America, by Dennis Kucinich
And it's cheaper than all the others ones in your list - only ten bucks.

2. I've read "Dude, Where's My Country," but not the others
DWMC is a good read, but the problem I had with it was that there really wasn't anything new to me in it. Perhaps I just read DU and other like-minded Web sites too religiously.

I've read Molly Ivins' previous work, "Shrub," and really enjoyed it; I've never read Frankin.

If I had to make a totally uneducated recommendation, I'd say Ivins.

3. Borrow all three from the library.
That's what I do. However, you will have to put in a request and wait until they come available, most likely. So, if you don't want to wait, maybe you could buy one and put in library requests for the other two.

Either way, you should read all three! All of us should!

4. depends on what ya want...

laughs - FRANKEN
tears - IVINS
some of both - MOORE

note: if you've read CONOSAN, CORN, etc. you'll see LOTS of redundancy with these books.

5. Al Franken
Rational, funny, well-researched and comprehensive "look at the right". Ivins concentrates on Bush, so you'll miss excellent discussions of Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh and O'Reilly.

Moore I have not read but I find him too bombastic and manipulative for my taste.

6. I've read Franken's book,
but not the other 2. I LOVE Molly Ivins...she says it like it is. Michael Moore. I loved "Stupid White Men" and I'm sure this book is just as good. Franken's book was excellent. FUNNY and very informative. I think your local library is a good choice. :)

If you're a Moore fan, buy his book. You won't be sorry.

7. It depends on what you are looking for.
I cant tell you about Micheal Moore's book. Molly's book is a little more of a facts about shrub's policies and how they hurt people. The book is witty but a bit of a long read in places. Al's book is a funny in your face jab at all the right wing spinmasters. The title tells you all you need to know. Good luck! I hope this helps. :smoke:

8. Mike Moore...because (+)
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 03:12 PM by AP
Moore has a history of taking the money he makes from each project and rolling it into the next project which has always turned out to be bigger and better.

I saw Bowling for Columbine MONTHS after it came out in a theater that was relatively full and people were really moved by it.

You buy his book, you help him build a platform which is bigger and better and from which he reaches more and more people.

You're financing a progressive industry when you buy that book.

Also, the other books give you information, which is good. But Moore, I think, challenges you to think. If you don't agree with everything he says, that's good, because it promotes a dialogue which limns the depths and bredth and borders of liberalism, which is good.

I know Bush sucks, and I know the media sucks (which is what Ivins and Franken talk about). But I know Moore will say things that challenge me to think.

14. I'm listening to Franken talk about his book right now...
...and I'm hearing the huge value in pointing out what a fraud the media is.

I'm gonna have to update my recommendation...buy all three books. Read Moore's first.

13. Al Franken
It's his best book yet, and it's an easy read, very funny and makes you laugh out loud. I just picked up Molly Ivans Bushwhacked today along with David Corns book "The lies of George W Bush."

You can not go wrong with Franken.

16. I've read Franken and Ivins
Franken is shrill and funny. He's preaching to the choir and doing a good job.

Ivins is far more gentle, a better writer, and equally funny. I think a few conservatives of my acquitance could read her and change their points of view.

Don't know anything about the Moore book....
