Pundits Put DEAN at the Top
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/1103/18dean.html

(snip)
"At some point during the next two or three months, the Democratic presidential contest is more likely than not to turn into a two-man race between former Vermont Governor Howard Dean and someone else, probably Rep. Richard Gephardt," political newsletter editor Stuart Rothenberg wrote. "But don't be fooled. The Democratic race is over."

Rothenberg, one of the most respected political prognosticators in Washington, added: "Dean has wrapped up the Democratic nomination for president of the United States. Well, almost."

Democratic Party professionals acknowledge Dean's enviable position in the primary.

"Dean is in the driver's seat," said Donna Brazile, who managed Al Gore's campaign in 2000 but who is not aligned with any candidate this year.

(snip)

Dean is the top fund-raiser in the field, having found ways to use the Internet not only to raise cash but to organize supporters.

He is first or second in most polls, including those in Iowa and New Hampshire, which votes a week later.

And last week, he got the blessing of the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, together representing 3 million union members.

On Monday, he turned his 55th birthday into a political event, using it to solicit $55 donations from new supporters and asking longtime backers to each write five letters to voters in Iowa and New Hampshire and invite five people to a campaign event.

1. They should just replace the Democratic primaries
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 06:59 PM by eileen_d
with a "Official Declaration of Punditry" proclaiming who "our" candidate is. None of that messy democracy ;)

8. But the Democratic race is over!
Edited on Tue Nov-18-03 07:07 PM by eileen_d
Why should I bother to read? or weep? I'll just smile and stay home. I know that would make Dean supporters happy.

Edit: You've been first in line to poop on Clark and Kerry threads, so you criticizing me is ROFLMAO funny.

11. The pundits are probably right
but "eileen_d" is definitely right! This gets decided ultimately by the voters.

You do Dean no credit by crowing about his advantage. Better is to use your position of strength to reach out and unite people.

19. Ah, Closer,
you put far too much faith in these critics. Believe me, the race is far from over.

9. Geez, relax already
It's just one pundit's opinion. Even as a Dean supporter, I take these pieces with a grain of salt. I've constantly said in this forum -- IT'S TOO EARLY! Dean has said that repeatedly as well, as do many of his supporters. He has not won any primaries....yet ;-)

12. I am relaxed.
Now that the stress of voting has been lifted from my shoulders, I am floating skyward on a cloud of pure delight.

7. That's exactly what the GOP wants, 2 middle class tax-raisers
with the 3 dem candidates who could beat Bush, without a second recession or a huge scandal, shut out.

13. As a Dean supporter, it's wrong of the pundits to ignore Clark....
but they might have a point, however wrong they could be. I still think it's too premature to declare Dean the defacto nominee....
