ABC NEWS: Limbaugh may have violated state money laundering laws. . .
ABC NEWS broke it last hour.

Money Matters
Authorities Eye Whether Rush Limbaugh Laundered Money Used to Pay for Drugs

By Brian Ross

Nov. 18 — Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh may have violated state money-laundering laws in the way he handled the money he used to buy the prescription drugs to which he was addicted, law enforcement officials in Florida and New York told ABCNEWS.

A conviction on such charges in Florida would be a first-degree felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Limbaugh returned to the airwaves this week after five weeks of rehabilitation for his admitted addiction to prescription painkillers.

Authorities say they became aware two years ago, during an investigation of New York bank US Trust, that Limbaugh had taken between 30 and 40 cash withdrawals from his account in amounts just under $10,000.

Banks must file a report to the government if someone withdraws more than $10,000 at once.

Limbaugh's lawyers confirm that as part of US Trust's service, a bank employee personally delivered cash to Limbaugh at his New York studio in amounts of $9,900 or so.

6. It's American Justice. That means that he will go free as a rich person
Poetic justice is a rare occurrence in American capitalist jurisprudence.

14. Well I mean being 'outed' ... career ruined ... life of misery ...
You know? I never think our 'justice' system is really 'justice' at all. But, there are other kinds of justice. ;)

2. What a schmuck.
He thought that making dozens of $9,900 withdrawals would keep him under radar? He doesn't really know much about banking, then does he?

It's the hypocrisy.

13. Actually
He thought he was being smart -- that amount technically shouldn't create red flags. Any activity of more than $10K automatically requires that the bank complete a suspicious activities report and send it to the financial crimes branch of the Treasury Dept. Though now it's probably part of Tom Ridge's domain.

So, any fraud manager worth a damn would notice that many transactions just below the SAR-triggering limit.

Dumbass hyprocrite. If news could make you orgasm, this would be worth at least two bouts of writhing.

4. I won't delude myself into believing that a rich, white Republican
could EVER go to jail for these crimes, but it's still fun to think about deconstructing Rush. A nice 30 year stretch would do him good. Well- maybe not- but it'd do ME good.

11. Imagine if he were poor
or a minority, any bets how long he already would be rotting in jail. It has become blatantly obvious that our system is broken. Rich people rarely EVER go to jail. Didn't someone with LOTS of money shoot and dismember someone and go free last week, I hear they were also a suspect in two other disappearances. Some even go on to be rewarded. Joe Scarborough had a young woman found dead under VERY strange circumstances in his OFFICE while the Condit media blitz was occuring, it doesn't hurt to have that magic (r) next to your name these days either.
