Intolerance
A question:

If gays do get the right to marry what is the big deal? I mean, are they harming anyone?

Personally I support the idea of civil unions and allowing gays to have domestic partner benefits.

But what are they doing to the X-tian fundies? I just don't understand why they can't be left alone to live their lives.

It's not like they are secretly coming in the middle of the night with magic wands to make their children gay.

2. Fundies just have this thing about other people's lives:
They want to RUN THEM!!!! It's what they do.... don't try to rationalize it.

6. That's what you think pal!
What do you think the "Tooth fairy" is...hmmmm

Seriously though I agree, I have spoken to people who say they are not agaisnt gay marriage but they just don't want it to be called marriage.

WHat as if a WORD is gonna hurt so many people..... I don't know why these people care...we should stop making it legal for stupid people to marry.

7. I've always been baffled by those who think gays 'evangelize'
Where did that idea come from that homosexuals want to make everybody gay? To me, it seems to be the product of a deeply insecure, threatened mind.

Perhaps their own desires become projected upon others, to where they decide that they are not responsible for the urges that make them feel uncomfortable, therefore, it must be gays out there prostelyzing somehow...you know, handing out homosexual tracts and flyers and such...

9. Oh, well, I can explain it.
Now that gay marriage is 'legal' in MA, many, many heterosexual happily married men will say, "Oh, shit! It's legal now in MA. That means I HAVE TO leave my wife and kids, and go find some guy, and go off to MA and marry him!!!"

Dammit, and just when I was so happy too! :-( Damn those Democrats! It's all their fault....

19. That's the only way they can think.
They make a choice to worship Christ, so gays must've made a choice as well.
They evangelize and recruit nnew members of their church, so gays must recruit as well.
They have an agenda to make our country more mirror their good book (makes reading easier...only one book to read), so gays must have some sinister agenda to break down those plans.
They have stealth agendas to hide their true intentions, so gays obviously can't be trusted, since they take all their orders from the Elders of Satin.

Yes, it's true. All 400 Million gays around the world all got together, in a secret location on the Gobi Desert (all at once BTW), and agreed that they would all lie and say "we were born this way" because they oppose Christianity. So there...the cat's out of the bag!

10. Well, I wish that we gay guys had to register, too!!
Then maybe I could find out if my friend, ______, is one of us!!! It would be public knowledge, wouldn't it??

Okay, sarcasm light 'off' now, before I get flamed.

13. you have to understand their
"family values" thing. They think that the seedbed of civilization is the family and the proper values that are instilled therein. They think that the "homosexual agenda" is destroying that foundation, therefore, destroying the pillars of civilization. You can do a websearch to find rightwinger/fundamentalist websites that explain it. It's all very unscientific and mostly anti-scientific; I think we'd be much better off if people stuck to a realistic, scientific understanding of society and sociology rather than myopic "philosophy".

14. How much time do you have?....
'cause it's a hard (er 'Difficult', dicks are hard) question to answer.
Part of it is jealousy: we gays seem to have more money, more time for ourselves, nicer things. Misery loves company: the freeper/fundies hate anyone having a better time than they do.
OTOH there are straights who are so happy that they want that for others and see parenting as a great joy.
Much if it is fear: worry about themselves, espcially the men. We're not animals whose sex activities are determined by pheremones, but by conscious desires: our minds are the most important sex organs. All humans have some bisexual content to their sex drive. I've found that the guys with the deepest worries are the ones with the strongest antipathies, overcompensating for natural urges. That's a BIG part of it. My experience is that guys will do what they can get away with. I knew sailors who all knew I was gay, and if they knew they were not going to get caught by their buddies, they were at my house ASAP, and their actions ranged from total passivity to total participation. And they all asked about each other. My guess is that now most are conservative and would be against any gay union laws.
There is also the component of political power. Fundies like to control others: that's the whole point of the cults they're in. It's an organizing point, like abortion. There's enough emotion on both sides to keep things stirred up.
As to gay unions: the unfairness of the situation is terrible. I know couples who were together for years and as soon as one died his family SWOOPED IN and usurped all he had. They want the money too.
Others are petty little bigots who are so pathetic that they have to have someone to look down on.
Hope that helps.

16. Hypocrisy.....
I'm a lawyer, and the thing that kills me about my conservative lawyer colleagues/acquaintances is that they're all for strict construction of The Constitution when bashing R v. W -- "the right to privacy doesn't exist, they made it up!!!" -- and yet they ignore the plain wording of the equal protection clause when it comes to the issue of gays, civil unions, and domestic partner benefits. Amazing.

Very succinct and to the point.

I agree with you. If gays get married, how, in any way, does that take ANYTHING away from str8 couples who get married? I honestly can't imagine what they're afraid of.
