What is with the right-wing and blondes?

not trash blondes by talking about the vanity of those who color their hair or the vapidity of GOP blondes.

I'm a natural blonde so I have inside knowledge of how many rude comments are made to blondes, beginning in childhood. Even before the advent of blonde jokes, way too many people bought into the stereotype that blondes are dumb. No doubt some are. I'm not.

People also seem to think it's their Constitutional right to ask blondes "What color is your hair, really?" It's annoying, especially if, after being told your hair is naturally blonde, the questioner then says, "But your eyebrows are darker than your hair." Duh. Ever heard of eyebrow pencil?

So, please, DUers, free yourselves of another stereotype, and another form of rude behavior. Blondes everywhere will appreciate it.

I have always liked make-up, so I know a little about it, and I have always been amazed at how trashy they look on Fox. The men too actually, too much eyeliner, especially on O'Reilly and Shephard Smith, and too much bronzer on all the men.

The women use the ugliest bubble-gum pink shiny lip gloss and some kind of cheap orange-ish foundation. Some of them have strange dye jobs that give their hair a greenish or orange-ish cast and they do too much teasing. Also garish eye shadows.

The other cable networks do a a really nice job with make-up, so I wonder if the trashy look is deliberate?

really nasty comments, extremely sexist comments, on this thread. You're attacking women for their hair color and parroting the stereotype that blondes are dumb. Women who choose to change their hair color seem to be especially scorned, which is an attitude I thought went out twenty or thirty years ago. I'm very disappointed to see this at DU.

Television execs prefer to see attractive men and women on their screens. That's shallow and sets unrealistic expectations. But, reading this thread, I remembered a number of past posts bashing CNN's Candy Crowley for her looks. So a woman can't be attractive and blonde but she can't be older and overweight, either. Perhaps some of you just don't want to see women on television at all. Or perhaps you'd like to see us all in burquas.

How many of you have heard of the science of sciobiology? That a lot of our behavior is determined by our genes and that they have been honed by a lot of evolution.

Fact: If an attractive person tells you something, you are more likely to believe it. (Note for flamers. More likely does not mean absolute. It is a probability thing.) This is a well establish fact of human behavior.

The things that men find attractive in women, in general, are a rough gauge to her health and her ability to have and raise, healthy children. Evolution has worked on that program for over a billion years and by now it is pretty will encoded. Look at the ancient Greek statues, or Egyptian paintings and the standard of feminine beauty is pretty much the same. For people of Eureopean descent, a lighter hair color is a general indication of youth. Most blondes turn brown as they age. So without realizing it, white guys are using hair color to guess the birthdays. Why white guys? Europeans went through the Ice Ages and had their evolution tuned by the effects of that climate. That's where we lost our pigmentation, and made a few other changes. Evolution has shaped and sculpted us all. For Europeans the Ice Ages only ended about 7,000 years ago, (If I remember right.)so evolution hasn't had much time to redesign us.

So what that adds up to, is that without realizing it, a Eureopean is genetically predisposed to believe a pretty blondle woman. Evolution doesn't give a rat's *ss about anybodies' right, and is itself niether right nor wrong, it just is. Of course, the marketing guys in the suits are well aware of this effect. Hey, Sex sells, and that has been know for a l-o-n-g time.
