This is some of what we know to be the truth.
The Vietnam War. LBJ lied about The Gulf of Tonkin attack in order to plunge the US into the war. After killing over 3 million Vietnamese, killing over 30,000 American soldiers (many of them drafted), and illegally attacking Cambodia, the US withdrawals from Viet Nam, having lost the war. The primary reason for the wars was to establish control of the opium trade operating out of this Golden Triangle.
The Iran-Contra Scandal This scandal was centered on the illegal sell of arms to the Contras by a renegade group of CIA and White House operatives. To pay for the arms, this group brought cocaine to America and sold it. Former CIA Director George Bush was VP at the time, but denied being in the loop. President Ronald Reagan also claimed no knowledge of the drug and arms running. Col. Oliver North took the fall for the scandal, which was then swept under the rug. His punishment? A lucrative talk show and eventual run for the US Senate.
The Drug War President Ronald Reagan intensifies the War on Drugs, which leads to a tripling of US prison population, but does nothing to reduce the amount of illegal drugs available in America. Rather, time has shown that the War on Drugs would have been better called The War For Drugs, as it provided legitimate cover for already-existing CIA sponsored opium (heroin) running in the Golden Triangle, and CIA sponsored cocaine (crack) running in South America. It also provided cover for covert CIA operations throughout Latin America aimed at overthrowing elected leaders and replacing them with US-owned interests.
The First Gulf War After installing Saddam Hussein in power, the US Government spent the 1980’s supplying Saddam with chemical, biological, and conventional weapons. This was largely to keep Iraq at war with Iran, at that time an enemy of the United States. After Saddam Hussein invaded neighboring Kuwait, his army was defeated by a multinational coalition led by the United States. After the war, heavy economic sanctions were levied against Iraq and UN weapons inspections were established. The lasting benefit of the war was the permanent establishment of US military bases in the Middle East, the region home to most of the oil used in the United States.
The Iraq War George W. Bush lied about the reasons for going to war with Iraq. Sold to the public as a war of liberation against the imminent threat America faced from Saddam Hussein, the war was actually an invasion of a sovereign nation that posed no threat to any nation. Enormous no-bid contracts were awarded to companies directly connected to the White House. No Weapons of Mass Destruction were found in Iraq and the liberation quickly became an occupation, and the occupation a quagmire.
This is where we stand today. This is what is happening right now.
We, the United States of America, have invaded a sovereign nation. We have reversed our definition of war and begun the occupation of a foreign country. By doing so, we have become an Empire, not a Republic, not a democracy.
We were told Iraq had WMD and they did not. We were told the war would pay for itself in oil revenue and it has so far cost over 150 billion dollars. We were made to believe Saddam was involved with 9/11 and he was not. We were told we would be greeted as liberators and we were not. We were told we went would establish a democracy in Iraq and instead have looted the entire country. We were told the war was over and the war has only begun.
In short, it was all a lie. A complete lie.
Our media does not acknowledge the seriousness of these truths. They, instead, continue to work in tandem with the Bush Administration in lying about the reasons we went to war. They do not recognize the fact that by our invasion and occupation of Iraq, we have become what we were told to fear—a nation at war with the rest of the world. A nation run by corrupt politicians who do not represent the interests of the people. A nation that is hostile to the rule of law and hostile to its very constitution.
There are voices that speak to this truth, but they have not yet broken through to most of America. Many citizens have already turned to the Internet for their news; many have become political activists for the first time. Candidates opposed to the invasion of Iraq have attracted the grassroots support of informed citizens, and organizations committed to getting the truth out into the mainstream have been created.
Will it be enough? Will we continue on our current path of corruption and crime? If so, there is no doubt what our next period of history will look like.
The 2004 Election Aided by BBV voting (electronic voting with no paper trail), President Bush is elected in a narrow win, despite his 35% approval rating at the time. Despite widespread civil disobedience, the highly contested election results are impossible to verify due to a lack of paper audit and the results stand.
The 2005 Draft Most Americans, still reeling from the traumatic events surrounding the 2004 Election, are surprised by the sudden reinstatement of the draft. Even more shocking are the rules of the new draft, long established and underreported, which no longer include college deferments and contain much heavier penalties for evasion than thought to be legal. Despite enormous civil unrest, the draft provides enough soldiers to allow for a series of new invasions against sovereign nations, which ends only after civil war and the collapse of the United States of America.
