What the hell is Howard Kurtz is implying? His evil sneer towards Dean
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 02:05 PM by La_Serpiente
I thought this was a new low for Howard Kurtz. Gov. Dean finally is informed that the remains of his brother's body, Charlie, has been found, and Kurtz decides to politicize it.

Atrios reported about this who got if from Washing the Blog.

Here is what Kurtz said:

"Howard Dean, speaking with reporters Tuesday afternoon following a campaign appearance in Bedford, N.H., expressed relief that the 30-year wait for answers about what happened to his brother might finally be over. As he has since the disappearance of his brother, Dean was wearing a belt buckle that belonged to Charles Dean as he spoke. "'This has been a long and emotional journey for my mother, Jim, Bill and me,' Dean said. 'We greet this news with mixed emotions but are gratified that we may now be approaching closure to this painful episode in our lives.' "Dean, in a soon-to-be released autobiography, called the capture and death of his brother 'the most traumatic events of my life.'"

I wonder if the remains would have been found if Dean wasn't running for president.

4. What a shitbag!
I'm a Clark supporter, but when I watched the thing on CSPAN where Dean was being asked about his brother, it brought tears to my eyes. All of us, Deanies or not, should write to this shitbag and let him know exactly how we feel.

6. maybe Kurtz is being pro-Dean
the Pentagon is the one that found the body at this point in timeh, coinciding with the election. If this is politically motivated then it would be politically motivated against Dean. And thus Kurtz's comment is a defense of Dean.

It is a stretch either way, I don't see how this revelation helps or hurts Dean, but hurts is the only one that makes sense, given that it was the Pentagon that did it.

Bottom line, Kurtz's comment is worthless.

7. Man, that's just totally uncalled for.
Dean finally gets closure (heartbreaking though it is)--there's nothing political about the discovery.

10. Kurtz Really Did Step In It
I just don't understand what he's trying to say here.

Couldn't he have gotten off his butt and called the Pentagon to find out how many remains they're recovering, and whether Dean is receiving any special favors, rather than "wonder"? If he did, he'd discover that the Pentagon people who do this work are doing heroic work for American families of all backgrounds.
