Edwards Claims Lieberman's Mom endorsed his healthcare plan!
From ABC News's "The Note"

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/politics/TheNote/TheNote.html

< snip >

Senator Lieberman's mention of his mother in the opening statement of the AARP debate was not at all subtle. The message was clear: I know what seniors need because I hear it every day at home. Marcia Lieberman was seated front and center for the event, just behind the microphone set up for audience questioners.

< snip >

When Lieberman touted his healthcare plan during the forum, saying that an independent expert had deemed it better than any of the other Democrats' plans, John Edwards decided to bring Marcia back into the debate. Edwards said his own healthcare program must be pretty good, since Mrs. Lieberman had endorsed it.

The campaign issued a statement from Marcia Lieberman: "That John Edwards is a nice-looking boy, but I don't know what he was talking about. I've been telling Joe for years that we need a prescription drug benefit, and I know he'll get it done as president."

The full story is way down the page under the "Lieberman:" headline at the above link.

I don't even know what to think of this. Any Edwards supporters out there wanna tackle this one?

2. Funny, weird
sure. But was it the truth? And if it is not, that is a monumental lie and blunder. How could a candidate sit there and claim an opponents mother has endorsed his plan if she hasn't?

11. If I had to guess, I'd say she probably said something in 2000 campaign
in support of a plan like Edwards's. Now that Lieberman is set free from Gore, he can say something different than Gore.

Is Gore's plan like Edwards's plan?

13. good point
the way i see it she probably made some comments where she favored a plan or ideas which are a part of edwards' plan. i CAN see her as liking edwards though. her statement released in response to this was set in somewhat of a "kind" tone and seemed something they did just because they kind of had to rather than because they are really upset at edwards or anything like that.

14. It also stated something that was the opposite of what her son is --
good looking. She might have been trying to conflate qualities like "confusing" and "good looking", and suggest that the opposite qualities can be conflated as well, ie, "makes sense" and "looks like a frog."

it's kind of funny. nothing serious though. probably just some misunderstanding.

7. But, if she did praise the plan (or the kind of plan) once, of course she
would release a statement like this to get the ball back in her son's court. And she's 89 so who's going to complain if she can't remember praising a plan like Edwards's.

I don't know why the Note didn't just ask Edwards's campaign for an explanation.

10. right, i do n't trust "the note"
when reading it i assumed lieberman's mother probably made a comment or something where she supported something which john edwards' supports. and that's how this all came about. but it they really should have got comments from edwards on this.

8. Interesting placement of the word "won".
Edited on Wed Nov-19-03 02:11 PM by AP
But you'll probably correct that typo (?) once you read this.

Freudian slip, perhaps.

When I think of Edwards I also think of the words "win" and "won" and "winner".

9. Who do you support?
The reason I ask is I've seen you be a complete prick on 2 candidate threads now. I'm just wondering which candidate we SHOULD be talking about, in your not-so-humble opinion.
