Gay marriage may be the only thing that can save straight marriage. |

Straight marriage in the US is a threatened institution. Many marriages end in divorce and many are failing at what conservatives say is the most important function of heterosexual marriage--childrearing.
Homosexual sex in itself is not deviant. Sex outside of a relationship is deviant and damages society. I know that this seems like a radical opinion but I have seen so many examples of sex outside of relationships damaging people and families that I can't count them and I don't know of ANY damage to the world EVER caused by ONE committed homosexual relationship. Rape/date rape, molestation, prostitution, and all forms of sexual exploitation are destructive. Sex within a committed relationship is constructive.
In my opinion, the most important thing in society is the family and its contribution to the future of humanity, whether that family is gay or straight; and anything that threatens the family is simply bad. Our society not only sanctions marriage but rewards it exactly because committed relationships benefit society.
Why are some Republicans so obsessed with preventing homosexuals from having loving, committed relationships? The reality is that rightwing Republicans are doing everything they can to destroy committed HETEROSEXUAL relationships as well because it is a lot easier for the BFEE to exploit people when they have no family ties. The GOP attack on the middle class is an attack on the ability of ordinary people to raise a family.
I think the gay marriage issue is more than a wedge issue for the GOP. I believe it is a reflection of their visceral obsession with the economic and sexual exploitation of ordinary human beings.
Why is Senator Santorum (for example) so outraged that some homosexuals want to live in a loving, committed relationship but not outraged that Neil Bush (for example) destroyed his family with his deviant sexual behavior? Has he presented any examples of gay couples who are destructive to society--even one example?
The anti-gay-marriage radicals don't have anything but rhetoric to back up their position. That's why they have to scream. I hope that the Dems can convey to the American people that an assault on gay marriage is an assault on all marriage and that marriages are indeed crucial to our society. The Democratic Party IS the party of family values; the GOP IS the party of family destruction.
