1. PRobably every last one...wife beaters too...they deny their true feelings
and therefore must express that hostility somehow.

5. What about the haters who hate everything that's different from them?
You can't say racists are latent African-Americans.

Prolly wife-beaters, tho.

4. I guess, some are, some are not.
jerry Foulwell, for example: I really, really doubt he is. Same for pat robertson -- just can't imagine it. jesse helms, no way!! Bill Bennett, I really doubt it. Santorum?? Dunno, probably not. fred phelps?? I can't evaluate a sub-human.

But gary bauer??? Hmmmmm.....

8. As a gay man, I think about as many as in general...
A lot of opposition to homosexuality stems from sexual insecurities, but not necessarily latent homosexuality. I think it's usually a generalized sexual debilitation--a fear of a challenge to the position of the patriarchal male.

9. Sounds familiar
One of the most vile, hateful people I've ever met would say truly disgusting things about gays that I wouldn't even bother to repeat.

Saw him years later pimping on a street corner. Guess he had a bit of an identity problem.

10. Hate is Hate
The way I see it, in my definition of what it is to be a human being, we all identify with what we express outwardly, and we remain latently everything else that we don't express.

Yep, I meant everything.

All us heteros are latent queers. All us love gushing new age holy rollers are latent killers. All us vegan vegies are bloody carnivores too.

And all us DUers are latent Freepers.

You can have a realy heart/mind-expanding meditation on self-identity if you reflect on it that way Buddha style!

Hate is just Hate.

11. human sexuality is complex, and. . . .
virtually everyone has some homosexual tendencies within their psyches . . . gay bashers are deathly afraid to acknowledge their own, no matter how marginal they are, and therefore strike out in an effort to prove "Not me!!!" . . .

16. Flamed?
I'd hate to think people would flame others for asking questions!

The dictionary definition, for psychology, is something present and accessible in the unconscious mind but not consciously expressed.

Here's the study that backs the theory up. (Copied from the thread I linked above) :)

WASHINGTON -- Psychoanalytic theory holds that homophobia -- the fear, anxiety, anger, discomfort and aversion that some ostensibly heterosexual people hold for gay individuals -- is the result of repressed homosexual urges that the person is either unaware of or denies. A study appearing in the August 1996 issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), provides new empirical evidence that is consistent with that theory.

Researchers at the University of Georgia conducted an experiment involving 35 homophobic men and 29 nonhomophobic men as measured by the Index of Homophobia scale. All the participants selected for the study described themselves as exclusively heterosexual both in terms of sexual arousal and experience.

Each participant was exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual and lesbian videotapes (but not necessarily in that order). Their degree of sexual arousal was measured by penile plethysmography, which precisely measures and records male tumescence.

Men in both groups were aroused by about the same degree by the video depicting heterosexual sexual behavior and by the video showing two women engaged in sexual behavior. The only significant difference in degree of arousal between the two groups occurred when they viewed the video depicting male homosexual sex: 'The homophobic men showed a significant increase in penile circumference to the male homosexual video, but the control men did not.'

I know what latent means. I know what homosexual means.

The study talks about latent homosexual urges. I know what that means. Doesn't everyone have all sorts of 'latent urges' that aren't expressed? Is there any 'heterosexual' who has never had 'homosexual urges'?

And I'm not trying to deny that many homophobes feel that way because the homosexual urges they have confuse and scare them - that is easy to believe.

Rather, I am asking what makes someone a 'latent homosexual'.

The poll says 5-20% of the 'General Population' are latent homosexuals.

If true that would seem to lead to the question, what percentage of the 'homosexual population' are latent heterosexuals?

19. A lot especially amongst the worst
Yes, there are some that don't like what they don't understand and people who are different. Those that are violent really have some issues that go beyond that. Those that actively preach that homosexuality is a sin and that anyone can change are probably homosexual also. They believe that anyone can change because they with their homosexual feelings are living a heterosexual life and it just makes them angry that they are hiding like they are suppose to while there are homosexuals that are happy in their relationships and demanding their rights. That must really make them angry. That is why they are so passionate about it.
