I need some help w/ partial birth abortion bill...
I'm writing an article regarding this new bill and was wondering if somebody could post some information or links (that I think I've seen here before).

1) Which dem senators supported the bill?

2) Which dem congressmen/women supported it?

3) Which Republican senators (if any) voted against it

4) Who were the sponsors?

And does anybody have that picture of Chimpy signing it into law?

4. I have an anecdote
When that bill was being signed into law, a friend of ours who had two children and was six months pregnant, was told that the child inside her would not survive to term.

She agonized over what to do. Abort the child? Or wait for it to die inside her?

The fetus died before she made a decision. But I know I was angry that these men, who don't have a fraction of the character that my friend has, thought it was appropriate for them to decide which medical procedures my friend could not have access to.

6. PLEASE don't call it "partial birth abortion"--
that is a pro-life term created to emotionalize the very rare procedure. It is late term abortion.

I understand that you are writing about the bill, so you may have to use it when talking about the name of the act, but in any discussion of the procedure, you need to call it what it REALLY is if you are to be objective, and perhaps a discussion of why and how the term "patial birth abortion" came into use is merited.

Just some suggestions :-)

9. NO! NON! NO WAY! IT'S NOT! NO HOW!!!!!!!
the Phantom Procedure which has been called a 'PBA' by the Anti Abortion Propaganda Industry (AAPI)
IS NOT a Late Term Abortion (LTA).

The Phantom Procedure which has been called a 'PBA' by theAnti Abortion Propaganda Industry (AAPI)
IS NOT
a D&X Abortion (or ID&X).

The Phantom Procedure (PBA) is an undefined procedure and can be used to refer to almost any abortion performed after 12 weeks.

Please read my - previous DU post -

As a further reference to the truth of these statements you could read - today`s excellent article - in Women's eNews.

Please do not permit this propaganda term to deceive you.

Please don't call it late term abortion!!!! They called it "partial birth abortion" to trick people into believing that it only applied to late term abortions. It does NOT. It is used for 2nd and third trimester abortions. There are other procedures still currently legal which can be used at that time if it is legal to have a late term abortion.

8. Having no idea of what you intend to write, I will offer advice anyway.
First, I find it impossible to believe that any intelligent person can discuss this procedure and the bill without including the comments of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists found here.

http://www.acog.org/from_home/publications/press_releases/nr10-03-03.cfm

Second, the insistence of the bill's sponsors and supporters to include provisions and exact language already found unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court raises questions of their motives.

14. My article is basically this...
1) the general chronology of how the bill became law and what it does.

2) how much of a douche bag Bill Frist is.

3) how 17 or 18 (can't remember the exact number) dems who are supposed to be fighting this agenda, supported the bill. Particularly the fact that both of our Louisiana senators Breaux and Landrieu supported the bill.

4) paragraph, testimony from outside sources (your link could come in handy here). And some closing thoughts.

I wanted the picture because I'm going to use the caption that I believe has been used previously which is "what is wrong with this picture?"

15. An interesting comment from the White House about the picture.
From the Washington Wire column in the November 7, 2003 Wall Street Journal:
MINOR MEMOS: Women's issue? Only men in Congress flank Bush for his staged signing of late-term abortion ban; an aide says female lawmakers were in room, but won't name any.

http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB106815858514753900-search,00.html?collection=wsjie%2F30day&vql_string=%22WASHINGTON+WIRE%22+++++++++++++++++++%3Cin%3E%28article%2Dbody%29

I found it very odd that the White House refused to name any female lawmakers who were present.

16. This should help -
You might be interested in - another side of Frist - and wonder - if he can be so dishonest in this area - has this leopard changed his spots or does he merely mouth what is expedient for him?

With respect to the origin of the Phantom Procedure scam this is probably - one of the best herstories on the net - at this time -besides my own contributions of course @;›)8 . As usual I suggest that you don't stop reading after the first couple of paragraphs because the information is really in the rest of the article.
