New term: a "Jindal"...
One who abandons their heritage to appease or impress White conservatives.

8. Black Conservatives...
make as much sense as Log Cabin republicans.

LBJ signed away the south to the Repukes for a generation... but that era is soon to pass.

2. Blanco won 38% of the White vote
Evidently in the privacy of the voting booth some white conservatives preferred a moderate white woman to a conservative brown skinned male.

4. You have to admit though:
I bet you never ever thought you'd see the day where the La. Republican Party would nominate someone other than their obligatory white-male for the governorship.

I know I sure didn't.

7. His heritage? What's that? The radical Indian left?
The legacy of Gandhi notwithstanding, have I missed out on a long tradition of Indian-American liberalism in the US?

Jindal is Christian Conservative, Ivy League graduate, Rhodes Scholar, McKinsey alumnus whose parents emigrated from India for a better life. Although no immigrant, and nobody outside the top 1% of income earners, and nobody who earns most of their income from working for a living should be voting for Republicans, obviously many people do. I see nothing in Jindals biography which would make you think he'd be more likely a Dem than Republican.

11. Probably inspired by the episode where Bobby becomes a hall monitor
and gets to wear the sash. He becomes such an authoritarian, his sibs grow to detest him. He redeems himself by rescuing a cat from an abandoned house, thus violating his level 3 moral rationlity: obey all laws, no matter how irrational and immoral). Of course, he gets dirty, tries to clean his own clothes -- disgusted by his own transgression?; out out damn spot! -- uses too much detergent, and hilarity ensues.

I can see how a young moralizer could be swayed by the Tao of Bobby.

18. You're absolutely correct
Jindal's brown skin is a red herring. He never represented Indians in any way whatsoever.

Who cares about Indians anyway? We make up less than 1% of the population.

12. I want you to keep in mind that it was a woman that won
I still consider that a win by a person who is part of the disadvantaged classes...because in all reality, women would be ruling the world if there was no form of affirmative action.

13. I read an interview with Jindal in which he talked about how
when he was in college, a fresman's parent, and Indian man, walked up to Jindal asking for directions and help. Jindal said he was insulted that this guy presumed that because Jindal was Indian-America that he would provide any better information or assistance than anyone else.

Lighten up.

I remember reading some black America liberal intellectual (famous, but his name escapes me now) talking about living in England. His first day in England he was late for his job. He needed directions so he walked up to the nearest black man. The guy was a West Indian with such a thick London/West Indian accent, the American had no idea what he said.

He said that he learned an important lesson about race in that moment.

Nonetheless, who could criticize the impulse to look around and try to find the person you think will be most sympathetic to your plight? Well, I guess Jindal could.
