Your Duty: Slap People Who Talk about Michael Jackson Details |
|
The media will try to industrialize the Michael Jackson case into a new OJ Simpson circus. They'll have 90 minutes of MJ coverage per channel per day and devote programs like Geraldo and Bob Gibson entirely to it. (I don't know what the current versions of these programs are.) MJ will drive out all other stories.
It's hard to believe they got away with it the first time, but for 2 years OJ was played as the most important event in human history. Everyone was forced to know the details and take a position. It was used as a racial wedge and lots of people still treat their opinions of it like a religious profession. ("I believe in God and motherhood, and on my deathbed I will never forget that OJ Simpson got away with murder!" - I wish that was parody!)
A new high-water mark in mass brainwashing was reached when the networks seriously hoped Clinton would postpone the SOTU speech to accommodate news of the OJ civil-case verdict, which came down the same night. They ran a crawl about the verdict during the speech, and switched immediately to OJ when Clinton was done. Many Americans still think of OJ as the symbol of the "moral laxity of the Clinton era."
The MJ case adds the element of child abuse, an issue almost as effective in priming Americans for a police state as terrorism, drugs, and the thought of big black men killing white women. If anything is bigger than the NFL, then it's pop music and fashion, and the potential for turning it into an obsession among teenagers is far higher. Nice liberals will pontificate about how parents need to talk to their children about the MJ case and its implications. It will play many of the mental-control functions of the "new California terror event" many have expected to greet Arnold's term.
As a countermeasure, I think it is vital that we note this and not waste another word on it. Make it your duty to slap anyone you meet who starts blabbing to you about MJ case details. The only way to fight this is to drive down the ratings.

1. Let's face it, both Laci Peterson and Kobe will be taking a back seat. |
