LA Times National Poll: Beer Drinkers Prefer Bush; Dean Leads Dems
http://www.latimes.com/news/custom/timespoll/la-na-poll20nov20,1,3774962.story?coll=la-home-headlines

Polled 1,345 adults from Nov. 15 through 18; including 1,144 registered voters. MOE 3%.

Bush Re-election: 46% no, 42% yes

This was funny:
"Those who drink wine with dinner prefer a Democrat over Bush for 2004 by 7 percentage points. Those who drink beer back Bush over a Democrat by 23 percentage points."

And this is no surprise:
"Among those following the race closely, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean leads with 20%, followed by retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark with 14% and Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry with 10%.

Among those not closely following the race, the leaders are Sen. Joe Lieberman, Gore's 2000 running mate, with 13% and Rep. Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri, the former House Democratic leader, with 10%; Dean draws 4%."

I know it's early for national polls, but I am just amazed by how much support Bush continues to have. Lots and lots of people like him and think he's doing a good job. Maybe we're just crazy.

1. Guess it depends on how you define "beer"
I don't consider Bud Lite, Coors and the rest of the mass produced crud as beer. I haven't touched the macroswill put out by the big breweries for several decades. It's microbrews & local pub brews for me all the way.

Yeah, Bush supporters probably drink Coors at an alarming rate. But that ain't beer; merely colored water with some carbonation in it.

6. So if we get them to switch beers...
...maybe they'll vote Dem?

7. Nah, Coors drinkers will never vote Dem...
...or switch to real beer. The universe will get sucked into a big black hole before either one of those things would happen.

3. Coors is far right-wing
and has donated to R's for years. I wouldn't drink their sludge.

4. For comfort, look at his reelect numbers
not just the one you cite, but this one: Who are you likely to vote for? Bush, 38 percent, Dem 42 percent. Found that on http://www.pollingreport.com

To have his approval rating (54 percent) so much higher than his reelect means some of his support is very soft. BTW, this is Bush's lowest rating in an L.A. Times poll.

5. The beer fans they polled thought it was about Anheiser-Busch.
Not Georgie Bush.

10. among those closely following the race
Dean has a six-point lead nationally and among democratic voters who are not following the race he is at 4%, so the more democrats find out about Dean the higher his support. That is a good sign.
