"Florida's Dirty Little Secret" ..loss of private funds to colleges.
They are not matching pledged funds, and it is hurting. This is dead wrong, there is no excuse for it. Can't imagine why none of the national media ever covers anything about what Jeb's stubbornness is doing to this state?

SNIP....."He was so satisfied that he added: "We're not going to open up the budget unless there is a crisis that we need to respond to."

Cheating Florida's 11 public universities out of $100 million -money pledged in good faith by the state -- should be a big enough crisis.

In 1979, the Legislature approved a matching-gift program for universities and community colleges. Designed to encourage private donations, the program has given universities $365 million. The minimum match gift is $100,000, with the state matching half the amount -- with percentages increasing as the gift goes up. The state will match gifts of more than $2 million on a dollarfor-dollar basis.

But over the past several years, the St. Petersburg Times recently reported, the state has amassed a backlog of $100 million in gifts it has not matched -- not including money owed for donations to community colleges......"

1. I worked for three months in a mailroom at UF
and one of my jobs was to deliver mail to the building where the university president had his office. Every time I went there, worried people were talking in the hallway.

I might have mentioned that I hate Jeb before, but it just doesn't get any better.

2. A lot of these college heads were supporters, weren't they?
Seems to me. I am on a mailing list with librarians and other state workers. All are nervous.

It is as though he is doing everything he can to make higher learning less available.

Don't forget they changed the high school requirements as well. Three years of high school will not get one into a good college. It all falls into place as anti-education. Everything he has done seems to fall into that category.

3. It all makes sense when you look at it this way . . .
Florida needs service workers to keep the tourists happy, certified nursing assistants for the ever growing elderly population, and migrant workers to harvest the crops. Heck, an A.A. would make you overqualified!
