Maybe a Nader for the right?
THAT'S something I'd like to see. That would woo away some real hardcore fundies.

The Lord works in mysterious ways, indeed. But best not make too many promises you might not be able to keep. "He" knows!

3. Bush could kiss the South goodbye
All those people who've lost jobs but are too born again to vote for a dem would go to Moore. This is the best news I've heard today.

7. Yep, Roy Moore is defnitely MY choice for a candidate
Hell, I'd even vote for Lieberman if Moore was on the ballot, too, because there is no way in hell even Lieberman would lose in that scenario!

same thing the repukes do to get the opponent they want. Crazy Al for instance.

Cheers
Drifter

BTW - I like Al, but I do not think he has a chance of becoming President. Press Secretary would be his kind of gig.

8. Where can I send him money?
I was amazed a little while ago to learn that there is a number of people on the religious right who feel that the Bush administration isn't right wing enough, if you can believe that. If the Republicans are really sending Dean money so that they can go up against what they consider to be an easily beatable opponent, I see nothing wrong in using similar tactics against them.

16. Not necessarily...
Remember, Roy Moore is not a party guy first, he is a fundamentalist Christian first. He sees the Repubs as his enemy now. Who prosecuted him? None other than a Republican AG. Who didn't support him? Bob Riley, the Republican governor. Who removed him from office? A number of Republican judges (some Dems, too).

Roy Moore strongly believes that our nation has moved away from God. He sees the Dems and Reps to both be corrupt in this arena. He doesn't give a rat's ass about Republicans winning the White House as much as he cares about turning the US into his own version of Talibanized Afghanistan.

Also, Roy has a huge ego. He is a classic narcissist and will be easily swayed into this race given enough pressure from his constituents. He will believe that God wants this from him, and he will act on it.

Folks, this could be huge. I think we all need to contact the Constitutional Party and pledge our support for Roy's nomination. Today. Now. Immediately. No time to lose.

Roy Moore for President!!!!

28. But get in Moore's mind...
(I know, it's a scary proposition)

OK...the Republicans at the National and State level let Roy flounder in the wind over this monument. What did that say to Roy? It said that the Republicans are all bluster about their intentions to turn this nation back to God. He has a deep feeling of betrayal over this. Also, if he runs for President, it gives him both momentum and some left over cash to run for Governor of Alabama. What better spring board than that?

Given Roy Moore's state of mind, his allegiance to his warped vision of God, and his desires for power, I think that this is a very real possibility.

32. assuming that it gets that far...
you'll see the same thing happen that happened with Nader in 2000: they'll discredit him, call him an egotist, marginalize what he says, whatever...and troops will rally round the Bush flag.

37. maybe
but, once again...look at 2000... People in any other election might have voted for Nader, but the threat from the other side (along with the flailing Gore candidacy) swung that protest vote back to the main party candidate. If it appears the same toward late campaign season, people on the right will go back to supporting Bush to shore-up his support. It will NOT end up siphoning the votes needed to make a difference.

I don't see Roy Moore as being any more fundamentalist than your average right-wing nutjob...he doesn't represent a real political difference, other than his steadfast support of the 10 commandments, a perennially popular position for anybody right-of-center.

Nader siphoned enough votes away from Gore in Florida to allow Jeb and Cruella Harris to steal the election. Roy for President!

26. You underestimate his EGO.
He is going to run one day and I wouldn't be surprised if he did it in 04. He has momentum on his side right now, he is getting press coverage right now. In 5 years no one will remember him (nationally).

His ego is above party. Believe me.

moore drawing off the rabid wingers, and someone like perot drawing off the moderate republicans, the ones who still have a conscience. It could well be the pukes will fracture into a thousand pieces.

25. If we do this, we could try for a 3-for-1 split.
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 12:39 PM by LoZoccolo
This could backfire, because the Republicans might try to further fuzzy the first amendment to get these voters back. Most of the Republicans I know well are more of the libertarian types, and while they would not like this, they might go along with it if it's introduced gradually (they already go along with the Republicans despite their very un-libertarian tendencies). If we want to further damage the Republican party, we could split the party from both ends and convince these people to "send a message" to the GOP about civil liberties - things like the USA PATRIOT act, for instance - by breaking from them next election as well.
