Civil unrest? Bad news for Bush? Time to call DISTRACTION JACKSON!! |
|
Seriously, we all know Michael Jackson is a sick fuck. That's not news. Right now, there's a Chicago 68-style police-initiated intifada going on in the streets of Miami, Bush is being protested by 100,000 Britishers, a bomb in Turkey killed dozens in order to make a statement against American occupation in the Middle East, the economy is tanking, our situation in Iraq is sliding into chaos and further death, the rights of gay people are in jeopardy, and all I can hear on the airwaves IS MICHAEL FUCKING JACKSON, FER CRISSAKES??? Don't you peole recognize a distraction when you see it??
Sorry, outrage overload. Had to vent.

Jackson needs incarceration in a clinic to help him with his illness. Not a big deal--and the world burns
I seldom turn on TV during the daytime. Because of all the reports on DU today about the Florida protests, and the Bush play acts, I turned it on--Jackson--jackson--jackson--this is "as the world turns" the American obsession with celebrity--but today, it does not seem funny to me anymore--I can no longer sit back and shake my head--we have sunk down into hell--we have no collective intelligence--all we have is collective addictions to hype , celebrity , buying frenzies, and glitz.
While our soldiers die to defend Bush and these great American traditions. It is not funny anymore--I can no longer use the platitude--"only in America"--I am not proud of this decay.

8. I know. It's not funny anymore. |
|
I used to try to be amused, but now I'm disgusted again (apologies to Elvis Costello.) There are people who believe that Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, etc. IS the news. Jesus, what has happened to this once-great country?

in our country's history, and the boobs are spouting the same inanities they do every day.
Jackson is a sick individual. There are many sick individuals. Why this obsession?
It's all about the almighty buck, because feel they have to attract viewers by any means possible.

9. Why is that people want to listen to the TV heads speculate and babble |
|
over and over all day long when they have nothing new to report? When they could report the basic facts in two minutes and then report on the other far more important news?
I really don't get it. I know people that love to listen to this drivel and I've even asked them why they like to listen to it, but they don't have an answer. It's not even entertaining after the first 10 minutes! It's so repetitious.
What need does it provide for people? I know they enjoy salaciousness, but why do they put up with the repetition? They must like that too for some reason.

13. It's a consistent pattern |
|
A Presidential candidate, the potential leader of the free world, is asked what kind of underwear he wears; The O. J. Simpson trial (two people murdered; the killer is still free) is turned into a circus by an ejaculatory press; The impeachment of a President is turned into a late-night TV joke; A recall election in California, a very serious political matter, is turned into a personality contest...
and the list goes on and on. This is just the latest piece of idiocy from the fourth estate.
"Was Jackson wearing handcuffs or not?" WHO GIVES A FUCK?!?
How many soldiers died in Iraq today? How many Americans lost their jobs today? How many people will rummage through garbage cans tonight because they can't afford a meal?
The press needs to get their fucking priorities straight.
