Dem's should copy Nixon strategy of '68 (american prestige)

Whoever the democratic nominee is should make an issue that American prestige in the world is at an all-time low due in great measure to the cowboy like policies of GW Bush and his belief that the US is the all-mighty superpower and all the rest of the world must kiss our ass.
We should have campaign commercials showing the world wide protests against the war and Bush--literally millions took to the streets.

We should repeat a phrase from the stump speech of Richard Nixon in 1968: "With American Prestige in the world at an all-time low...it is time for new American leadership."

I've been liking more and more of your posts lately. I like this one too. Not only does it remind us of how far in the wrong direction we've gone, but it holds up a higher standard for us to reach for. Americans like that, I think. We like to be challenged to live up to our highest ideals.

The necessity of restoring our standing in the world has easy-to-understand relevance too. We're not ever going to be able to solve global terrorism without the help of the globe. We're not ever going to be able to stem the flow of jobs to foreign countries without their cooperation in raising labor and environmental standards.

for your kind compliment. I think there are a wealth of arguments we must make in '04 and this is one of them. I like that Dean recently has been attacking the "Enron Economy" and I think we should also make that a key issue in '04.

3. Won't work. Thoughtful, though.

Americans have never voted based on international perceptions; Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh will portray it as "us vs. them," and "how dare foreigners criticize our president." Nixon didn't win on that, either; he pandered to the Southern Strategy, "Law and Order" and the basest instincts of Americans. The election will be based on pocketbook issues, social programs, Iraq casualties and (sadly) Rove's strategy of dividing us on issues like gay marriage, affirmative action and "treason." And most Americans may very well buy it.

but I think it could be one of many issues that might cause some thinking Americans pause. I hope.
