1. AARP & DU
From: Guest Nov-18 11:45 pm
To: ALL (1 of 250)
1833.1

To the people of the AARP, I would not put too much into all these people, who are guests on the board, CLAIMING that they are going to cancel their membership. This whole thing is nothing more than partisan politics. The people of www.democraticunderground.com have launched a campaign to try to bully and scare the members of the AARP into believing that the medicare bill is going to end medicare. All they really care about is you being fully dependent on the gevernment and not wanting you to have any control or say so about your healthcare.

Here is one link about what they are up too.

19. deductible is in the thousands...drug prices are untouched
whether you are in medicare or not this affects you, me everyone.
There are medications for high blood pressure, heart, liver etc that cost hundreds of dollars a month, consuming the retirement income of many retirees.

The drug companies are shameless about their pricing system, high priced ad campaigns and very fat profit sheets. A whole bunch of wealth is been drawn from seniors and all of us to a very small amount of companies and executives. Wealth that can be better spent on many other parts of the economy. Besides YOU will have to spend many thousands of your own money before this benefit? kicks in.

4. Yeah, that was hilarious--from someone logged in as "Guest"
I feel sorry for all of Delay's and Frist's little legislative aids; they must make the kids spend all of their time on the internet flaming liberals. Maybe if they're good boys and girls, they can be in the next khaki riot.

23. Thanks for the link Wanet
And welcome to DU. I used it to send my feelings (negative) about the medicare bill. Yes, I'm a member and I don't use profanity so perhaps AARP will read my missive.

10. Finally got through on 1-800-424-3410 and had a long conversation
with a very polite young woman who says they are getting a lot of calls on this issue and you know what that means. They are mostly negative calls because otherwise no one would be calling. Call instead of e-mailing and get your message recorded and seen by the powers that be. She also said that shs has talked with all ages, including 18 year olds.

With such a crappy job markets I bet I could find 1000's of kids you would do this sort of job. Doesn't really require much skill.

We are being accused of "spamming" the message board. We are "narrow minded idiots" and we want government to take over more of our lives.

24. What a perfect response!
And more than likely true.

As I was watching Nightline last night, they broke to commercial. What was the commercial about?

It was the AARP, w/an assortment of people stating how thrilled they were about the repug Medicare bill.

Sheesh man, I watch one program/day and this ad is backing my program? Have many others seen this commerical?

26. Well we spoke and canceled our membership.
But this is what pisses me off about the repugs-confusing the issue. So all the legitimate citizens are marginalized by an astro turf campaign and AARP can say, well we got about the same number of calls for either side. This is an MO they use over and over. Black is white, muddy the water, protest we are doing what THEY are doing. It leaves the average person feeling confused and like their side is really much larger than it is. Its like election 2000-instead of letting the true results win they had to force it to turn out the way they want. When will people wise up?
