Call AARP at 1-800-424-3410. It is worth the wait and you will be listened
to. This issue is so important. I may be in the wrong spot for posting and please move if necessary. Late for an appointment from holding so I'll leave you to it. Thanks

1. AARP appears to be old news today.
My post on it sank like a rock. Did ok yesterday, but not on the radar today.

3. It's not old news. My mother e-mailed me that she's been having difficulty
getting through to AARP and her Senators because the lines are busy for all of the above, and it's about this issue. AARP made a huge mistake, and I think they're going to pay for it.

4. I was happy to wait and when I did get to speak, we actually had a
conversation and I could hear a great deal of others in the background talking to more callers. I hope that your Mom finally got through. It really was worth the wait. I'm going to e-mail the number to my Dem. Women's Group.

11. Thank you. this issue is the kind of day to day problem that really
will impact us all at some point or if we don't live that long, it will impact those we love. Fight and then fight some more.

10. I don't think it is some evil plot. I just think that there are too many
other things going on right now. The bread and butter issues really effect us all, whether we know it or not.

13. I told AARP that I would not be renewing. The attentiveness
and actual listening of the young person I was talking to made me feel good about calling. She told me not to give up and still vote. I told her that I was a precinct chair and an activist so I was going to be voting and that the people we needed to worry about were the folks in her age group. I got the feeling that she was on the right side but maybe she was just good at her job.

18. The young twirp I talked said "something is better than nothing"
And I got really mad and told him to stop using GOP talking points with me. He got a little nicer.

20. Well, the young woman I talked to said that AARP said that this bill
was flawed but was better than what they had before (which was nothing). Actually I think that nothing, especially repuke nothing, is better than almost anything.

14. I e-mailed today and canceled mine and my husbands member
ship. But what the hell, I am pissed enough that it will feel good to ream somebody out over the phone.

I am still seething about that fucking lizard Gingrich sleazing around and endorsing this bill when he wanted to do away with medicare altogether. You can bet your last dollar if that maggot endorses something it is bad for the common person.

17. I wanted to add this but it was too late for an edit. The young woman I
talked to at AARP told me to be be sure and call about the energy bill or anything else I thought was important for AARP to take a stand on. I said, "the energy bill?" being somewhat taken aback and she said, "Oh, yes, any issue that is important to our members we want to know about." Do you think she was trying to tell me something???

23. I don't...
belong to AARP - though my parents did. I was innundated with their lit when I was a spry 50 - and I checked into car insurance - they were almost 3x what I could find on my own. So they never got me as a member.

I was thrilled to read this morning that my Congresswoman publicly resigned from AARP. That's the only thing that could possibly get their attention - though, I'm a cynic. I never thought that their focus was on helping seniors. I do believe it's a lovely economic *niche* - just like HMO's and nursing homes...mortuaries for that matter. No recession problems there. Every one gets sick. Everyone dies.

26. I was unable to get through to them today.
I was calling to complain about the membership invitation my husband received in the mail this morning. He is 37 years old. I don't know much about the AARP, but I thought it was non-profit. If so, why are they so anxious for members that they're wasting money sending info to 30 somethings?
