...his name and rep has taken an unrecoverable hit. This is where the justice system fails miserably, IMO. Few people know of the vindictive nature of Santa Barbara DA Tom Sneddon.

I grew up in Santa Barbara County and about 12 years ago there was an incident that got little press even in the city of Santa Barbara.

Here's what I remember...

While returning to the County Courthouse from lunch Mr. Sneddon accompanied by a couple of local Deputy Sherrifs pulled into the parking garage and to Toms horror, a van had parked in his assigned parking space. What does the DA do? Call the cops and have the offending vehicle towed and driver cited? That would have been the legal thing to do. Instead, Mr. DA decides to flatten the tires of the van. Big deal, huh....except for the fact that the van had a handicapped plackard displayed and the sherrif deputies objected to Mr. Da's actions, then Mr. Da tried to get them to give false statements to the SB County Sherrif. The owner was a wheelchair bound woman and having to appear in court couldn't find a parking space within reasonable distance to the courthouse so that she could make her apperance on time.

I've searched the SB newspress archives for any links to their original reporting of this incident but their archives only go back 2-3 years.

Anyhow, the reason I decided to post this info is to let people here know of the vindictive nature that this DA has in him and the parallels that can be drawn in regards to the misadministration and this DA in the application of the rule of law.
