Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 04:11 PM by wryter2000
People are calling Randi Rhodes about anti-protest police violence Miami

http://therandirhodesshow.com/streaming.html

They're at commercial now, so you won't get sound for several seconds.

8. Riiiiiiight
Hmmmm. Low post count and accusations about citizens who protest wanting to "defeat capitalism". I'm surprised you didn't also call them communist agents.

4. I heard that an IMC reporter was injured
Hit by a rubber bullet. I can't listen at work, but a friend emailed that unsavory tidbit to me. Very scary.

But hey, folks, what's new with Michael Jackson? Or Scott Peterson?

5. Some stuff: Sorry I don't type fast enough

Woman: They shot me twice they shot me in the hand and in the breast.

Reporter on scene: Her hands are red and bloody and dry

Reporter at studio: Let me ask you something, before they do this are they giving you instructions?

Reporter on scene: No. I don't get what's provoking these people to do this. They shot at a lady in a red suit. She was just holding a sign and they shot at her. They're not even telling us where to go. Do you know what started it?

Demonstrator female: We were just walking out of the rally.
Demonstrator male: I was shot twice.

....

Reporter at studio:There's a girl right there who just got shot and her hands were in the air. She did absolutely nothing.

18. FTAA: Here's a Good Rundown from the AFL-CIO
http://www.aflcio.org/issuespolitics/globaleconomy/ns11202003.cfm

Stop FTAA: Workers Say Bad Trade Deals Destroy Lives

Nov. 20—Working families throughout the Western Hemisphere could lose jobs, benefits and the right to form a union if the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) becomes a reality, according to workers who spoke yesterday in Miami as part of a historic Global Workers Forum sponsored by the union movement.

Steelworkers give a thumbs down to the FTAA trade deal that will drain more jobs from the United States....

If approved, the FTAA would eliminate tariffs from 34 countries with a combined population of more than 800 million and accelerate the staggering job loss and environmental damage experienced under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). U.S. workers lost 879,280 jobs and real wages in Mexico have fallen as a result of NAFTA in the past 10 years, according to the nonprofit Economic Policy Institute.

etc.

22. Here's the FTAA indymedia site--minute to minute reports
http://www.ftaaimc.org/en/

< 11-20-2003 17:05 >
1st ave and 11th st (on railroad tracks). police are trying to divide a couple hundred protesters by driving their cruisers through the masses. several people have been bumped, no reported injuries due to the police cars.

< 11-20-2003 17:04 > wellness center ok
reports are that the wellness center is no longer surrounded by police.

< 11-20-2003 16:54 > Wellness Center - Centro de Bienestar
Cops using tear gas indiscriminantely, moving close to the wellness center at 5th and N Miami. Outside decontamination spaces at Wellness center had to be shut down because tear gas is lingering.

N Miami and 3rd. CTC raid report seems to not be valid. Police seems to be moving back from 3rd and N Miami.

N Miami y calle 3rd. Parece que el informe de allanamiento del CTC no es vlido. La polica parece volver a moverse desde esa esquina.

< 11-20-2003 16:47 > CTC NOT raided - El CTC NO fue allanado
CORRECTION: this may have been a false alarm. We have information that the Citizen's Trade Campaign is safe (and not raided by the police).
Sorry for the false alarm.

Main St. and NE 9th. Cars being moved off the street on. Tear gas still in the air. Energy is real high.

Mucha energa.

25. If these protests have anything with the WTO, World Bank, etc.
Then the protests are probably a lot more mild than they should be.

Read Greg Palast's "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy." He spends quite a bit of time talking about "Free Trace" and the organizations that aspouse it. Absolutely terrifying, though...

28. Also see the films "Hidden in Plain Sight" and "Plan Colombia"
to see what happens to indigenous peoples whose land happens to be on OIL fields. They're being systematically killed off by paramilitaries. Plan Colombia has nothing to do with drugs--it's a front for supporting more dirty tricks in Latin America.

19. More transcript snippets: I'm not good at this but here's what I got...
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 05:41 PM by Baconfoot
RANDI: Watch the video, see what you think is going on and then turn up the sound and see how they're thanking the police for keeping order today.

TIM (Randi's assistant reporting on-the-scene): One of the CBS reporters has just fainted It looks like he got gased or something. Looks like he's ok, he's talking but he's not able to move. There is a working theory that reason the police started firing is because the permit ran out...

RANDI: I haven't heard ....

TIM: I can't get back to my vehicle (that's the news unit 4 thankfully not my truck) I'm standing at ground zero and this is not America.

RANDI: They've said that a number of demonstrators set small trash fires in the middle of Bisquane BLVD.

TIM: That's wrong because the fires were set, but they were set AFTER. They were set in protest after they started getting fired upon.

RANDI: Then it says a radical group claled the black block tossed rocks bottles at police etc.

TIM: THe only time the police are fired upon is when they start firing without cause. I've seen a rock fired at them once, one time.

RANDI: I just saw a report that said there WAS an announcement made.

TIM: NO

RANDI: Did you hear an announcement at all?

TIM: From the moment I came on the air with you I started my tape recorder. I was 15ft from them the entire time. There was no announcement at any time. Now they're looking at me and getting irritating as I'm reporting this.

RANDI: Two news stations are reporting this thing entirely differently.

Demonstrator to TIM: Are you on Randi Rhodes?

???: What's your name?

Demonstrator: Joe Martin.

TIM: Did you see any provocation?

Demonstator: No

TIM: It just started.

Demonstrator: It just started.

...

TIM: I haven't had the courage to look at mine yet.

30. This is a bunch of crap!
The photos I've seen doesn't warrant the action I've seen by the police.

Roit gear, guns, tear gas, protection shields, bullet proof vest and the whole nine yards. You can bet more folks than ever have lost their respect for the authority that protects 'em. This is outrageous and totally unacceptable.

This is not America any more folks! 1984 is here.

How much more can Mother take?
Before she gets truly pissed!!
