OK just heard two ominous reports on CNN
Lou Dobbs spinning the crowds in London: "Police say 70,000 protestors--far less than the 1 million that protested in a previous anti-war protest ..." So this implies that since it wasn't a million, things are getting better for Bush?

The second report about many reservists reporting are being turned down because of medical reason...some are in poor health beacuse they don't have regular medical visits.... (paraphrase). Wow!! Does that mean that our "model" healthcare system is now a threat to national security?
That's what it sounded like to me.

1. The play on Numbers have always been a part of the PUB attack
and second,

the reservists are telling their doctors of every little ache and pain so as to avoid the War. They don wanna go if they don have to.

3. Can't say that I blame them. Who wants to take part in an immoral and
totally unnecessary war?

The numbers manipulation goes all the way back to Nixon.

5. Dobbs is more obnoxious than usual
I use to like Lou Dobbs. He was critical of Bush. Not a Dem, but fair - so it would seem. But lately, he's a total asshole.

Yesterday, when talking about the potential deal on Medicare, he kept going on and on with that smug smile, "what do the Democrats have left? What do the Democrats have left? etc. etc."

I hate him.

13. I'm no fan, either.
I loved it - the day before yesterday, I think, when he led into not one but two reports whose bottom line was - THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU CUT FEDERAL PROGRAMS AND/OR GIVE AWAY THE STORE IN TAX CUTS - our leaky borders that allow illegals and drug smugglers in, by the truckload (I forget the exact nature of the second story, but there were two of them) and then saw him shake his head and frowned in great concern.

I found myself actually yelling at my TV, "THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU SUPPORT THE BUSH ECONOMICS FRAUD AND ALL THOSE LOVELY ADORABLE TAX CUTS YOU GUSH ABOUT SO SHAMELESSLY, DOBBS!!!"

Asshole.

I fondly and wistfully remember the days when anchors and reporters were actually somewhat objective...

6. What percentage of the reservists come from the south?
AOL posted a health note that gave the rankings by state and with the exception of Virginia, the old south had health scores below the national average.

I'll look for that data now...

10. Dobbs on Jobs
I must say, he covers the loss of manufacturing jobs continuously. That has to be a good thing. He doesn't like it either, and it is a subject that is rarely discussed to any degree on any of the other stations. It is an almost daily thing.

He may not be great, and I don't agree with everything he says, but I must say it is better than the nightly news on any other channel. Hey, if it isn't at all about Jackson, it'll make me happy!

11. Agreed about the Jackson part
CNN seems to be the only Cable News channel that is covering the REAL news of the day. MSNBC and Faux can't seem to get off of Jackson-gate.

BTW, this is my first post on DU - long time lurker, first time poster!

20. That's right! The bashing is ridiculous
Lou Dobbs is ALWAYS ranting about the loss of manufacturing jobs in America AND outsourcing. He also takes a STRONG stand on jailing the corporate crooks. He is always addressing corporate crime. I think unless one is to the far, far left they are a "tool of Rove" or some such thing. Covering America in the media is a lose-lose game these days.

That seem more like what the protesters estimated.

9. They didn't acknowledge one million protesters at the time;
only now when it suits a deceitful end. So, lowball today's estimate (organizers say a quarter million), and take a higher estimate of the April protest (one million, instead of the half million or so the pro-war faction then estimated). And this was a weekday protest, April's was on a Saturday.

Never let them get away with such bullshit.

12. Fox NAZI propaganda channel
say it was 50K. They acknowledged the police said at least 70K but said the police estimates are always too high.

Thankfully even their sister channel Sky News said 100 to 150K!!

Just for info, Trafalger Square holds 100K and it was full and others could not get in at all.

18. About 20% of Guard/Reserve troops do not have healthcare through their
civilian employers.

A coalition of military associations have attemped to get medical coverage for those troops, however Bush threatened to veto any bill that includes such coverage.

I believe the coverage was to be added to the $87 billion Iraq package, but I'm not sure.

More information can be found at Tricare for the National Guard which says "Initially expected to decline the program, congressional conferees added a provision to the president’s $87 billion Iraq/Afghanistan supplemental bill to provide health care coverage to Guard and Reserve personnel on a cost-share basis."

19. Lou contributed $1,000.00 to Bush in 2001
And who knows how much to PACs supporting the GOP and Bush. It's all in opensecrets.org:

Dobbs lists himself as an "executive" of Space.com. He's on the board
( http://www.spaceholdings.com/management.shtml ) but that ain't his primary job. Gee, why would he not list "broadcaster" as his profession?

the correspondent in London said "organizers are expecting up to 100,000 people to protest against Bush today… but I only see a few dozen people here"
