Murdoch to Name Fox Exec to Head DirecTV -Report
I guess I can kiss C-span, my Canadian news station, Link and BBC goodby. I have had DirecTV for almost a decade now and I never thought this would happen.

<snip>
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A top Fox television executive is News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch's pick to lead DirecTV once his company completes its planned takeover of the satellite television broadcaster, the Los Angeles Times reported in Thursday's edition.

Murdoch's choice for the top job is Mitchell Stern, chief executive of Fox Television Stations group, News Corp.'s most profitable division, the paper said, citing sources.

Murdoch-controlled News Corp. is seeking to take over Hughes Electronics Corp., owner of DirecTV, the leading U.S. satellite broadcaster.

The proposed acquisition is under review by the U.S. Department of Justice (news - web sites) and Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites). News Corp. has said it expects the deal to be completed by the end of the year.<snip> More...

This is media monopoly. Isn't it against the law? Isn't this why we don't have good telephone service anymore because Ma Bell was considered a monopoly? How can this Aussie neo-con get away with it?

1. Du'ers read this and be concerned.
Another large part of our media has been opted by the right wing. I have no choice but to have satellite where I live as many other Americans do. This is blatant big brother stuff.

7. I don't think I can get Sirius or XMSR here.
Isn't Dish part of Murdoch's empire already?

3. there may be no value at all left in television
I think the commercials make you crazy.

Too many flashes and strobe effects for me to watch sports anymore, anyway.

Let it go. Let it go.

Or throw it through your window!!!

6. I hear you, and have the same problem
However, at least here there is at least a Dish TV alternative. Or better yet, toss the damn thing on the trash heap. I'm starting to lean that way myself.

But now you know why the media gives Bushco a pass on everything, and donations to his campaign chest. Nothing like having your bud the Pres let you "bend" the law with impunity.

4. Hint: DishNetwork....
I switched after almost a decade when I heard about the sale and haven't regretted it a bit.

5. Isn't Dish part of this scam?
Dish and DirecTV tried to merge, but Murdoch blocked the merger so he could take over. Dish I think is already part of it.

13. Change to Dish and get FSTV
and World Link TV.

If you subscribe via FSTV they will get a kickback and it will indicate your support for this kind of programming.
