I just can't believe this coverage of Michael Jackson...it's sick!!
Now you know what it means by corporate media. All on at the same time, saying the same things...unbelievable!! Who gives a shit?
I want to know more about the bombings in Turkery, Iraq, and the protests in London. How many more of our children were killed today? What is the status of the Medicare and Energy bills? What are the key points about these bills that the public should know?

Nothing is going to happen in the MJ case until NEXT YEAR!! Our media is totally useless except for the Bush cabal.

1. I flip the channel.
It's really amazing that the media considers this a lead story on a day like today.

2. There are some choices out there
CNN Foreign News is one; BBC World Report is good; Free Speech TV Network is very good.

I *never* watch the "news" for news -- print sources are the best, and while Jennings is good, and John Roberts of CBS is very good, I turn to CNN only to get a sense of what propaganda people are being spoon fed, and to understand the source of the news most people get.

I had the Jacko stuff on while I did the chores today, just to view this cultural silliness. Gee -- even Dan Rather spent a moment talking about how Jacko tried to avoid the media -- and neglected to mention how Bush cancelled his two major addresses to Parliament, to instead address an invitation-only "friendly" crowd (does the American Enterprise Institute have a London office?)

And we wonder why Americans handed their country over to despots without a whimper (without a clue)....

Have a laugh today though, my friend, at this link -- it's from The Onion "America is Beginning to Recover After 9/11 Issue."

3. The Miami story was the biggest IMO
Edited on Thu Nov-20-03 10:43 PM by frisco
The protests in England were a dud - the story thre is that hardly anyine showed. But in Miami it was bedlam by the anarchists about free trade. They passed one of the largest free trade agreements and it was a blip on the radar. The problem with MJ is that he's more well known internationally than Bush or Blair so that makes him a story. MJ is a superstar's superstar.

on edit. I'm not donning the foil but if a government wanted to divert attention a Michael Jackson melodrama like what is happening would be about as good as one could do. Is is by chance or are signals coming in tonight? It's at least worth thinking about.

4. CNN Showed the "bringing down Bush Statue" many times and the crowds
were huge! Trafalgar Squarie was filled with protestors within the camera range and who knows how many were "out of range." There were thousands there!

Agree about the Jacko coverage, but at least I saw Bush being toppled many times! And, that's more than they showed of the "anti-Iraq Invasion protestors all over the US before we Invaded. The numbers were always under-reported, and the coverage, except for the Washington Protests was almost nothing on the cables and the networks.

And, the Miami Protests against the "Free Trade Zone" were also shown repeatedly on CNN. HOWEVER: They never covered the stories by talking to local people who were protesting to get what the issues were, and the Turkish bombings were almost nonexistant, as were the Energy Bill and the Prescription Drug Bill, and whatever else went on.

So, they showed the Pictures, but didn't say what the pictures were about, but we heard from every person involved with the Jackson story about the intimacies of his crazy life style and the drum beat of evidence against him, which should predjudice most juries in the US and the World, making a fair trial an impossibility. (maybe that's the point, anyway)
