Censorship?...can't access Reuters anymore...
I work on a AF Base...and I used to go to Reuters to catch up on daily news and such...I can't access the site now...they have a filter system here on base...now all of a sudden I can't access it...I get big letters across the screen...

NOTICE...THIS SITE CANNOT BE ACCESSED ON THIS SERVER...

I have noticed this slowly more and more...certain areas of the BBC website I can't access anymore either...

:wtf:

Does this sound odd to anyone...?

1. Check with a computer-savvy person there...
Our computers at work sometimes get routed through different servers with different filters. Resetting them to the original servers corrects those sort of problems for us.

2. What filtering software is used?
Assuming it is a commercial off-the-shelf product?

Some use a hardcoded database of restricted sites, other attempt to use some sort of artifical intelligence to restrict Web sites page by page. The latter can give really strange results. Odd combinations of words and phrases can cause innocuous sites to be blocked.

Also, if a commercial product is used, one could find what (if any) pre-defined categories would block ordinary news sites.

If these fail, assume someone at the AF does not want you to look at news sites.

3. Can you ping the website?
They might be trying to block certain pieces of news and/or sites.
Not new. I have heard that the military IS blocking sites.
