Hard, Sad Facts About the Abuse of the "Heroin-like" Oxycontin (Rush)
http://www.oxycontinaddiction.info/injecting-oc.htm

Individuals who abuse OxyContin by injecting the crushed tablets quickly become addicted. Injecting OxyContin requires a preparation regimen similar to that of heroin. This allows the abuser to receive the full effect of the pure Oxycodone almost immediately. This creates an effect similar to illicit opioid narcotics, such has heroin. Such a regimen requires the removal of the tablet coating by either sucking on it or scraping it with the teeth or a razor blade, followed by melting the remainder on a spoon, adding water, and then injecting the solution. Dissolving and injecting the contents of OxyContin can slow down or stop breathing and lead to death. Injecting OxyContin can also kill the tissue around the injection site and trigger heart and lung problems.

Abuse of prescription pain medications is not new. Two primary factors, however, set OxyContin abuse apart from other prescription drug abuse. First, OxyContin is a powerful drug that contains a much larger amount of the active ingredient, oxycodone, than other prescription pain relievers. By crushing the tablet and either ingesting or snorting it, or by injecting diluted OxyContin, abusers feel the powerful effects of the opioid in a short time, rather than over a 12-hour span. Second, great profits are to be made in the illegal sale of OxyContin A 40-milligram pill costs approximately $4 by prescription, yet it may sell for $20 to $40 on the street, depending on the area of the country in which the drug is sold.

Injecting OxyContin creates a mindset in which the only goal of the individual is to obtain more of the drug. Interest in work, family and personal well being simply disappears. The individual often develops a drug-seeking behavior in which jobs, family, friends will all be sacrificed in an effort to obtain money to buy more OxyContin Thefts of money or items to sell from family members are all too common. Some result to prostitution or other criminal acts to fund their habit. OxyContin has a street sale value of one dollar per milligram.

1. Sad, but screw him - save your sympathy for others
Multi-multi millionaire who got that way by perverting public discourse in this nation, and who continues to do so (no change from him). Screw the bastard.

Oxycontin Withdrawal

OxyContin withdrawal is similar heroin withdrawal , it is almost impossible to go through alone. Withdrawal symptoms of OxyContin are worse than heroin and last longer. Professional help from a drug rehab center is the best and safest way to do this. Unfortunately, there is no known "painless" method for OxyContin withdrawal.

OxyContin withdrawal can also occur in a newborn whose mother was addicted to OxyContin during pregnancy. Withdrawal symptoms from OxyContin usually appear during the first few days of the newborns life. Symptoms exhibited from a newborn experiencing OxyContin withdrawal are: irritability, excessive crying, yawning, sneezing, increased respiratory rate, tremors, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. The withdrawal symptoms from OxyContin are a long and painful process. Left untreated and unmonitored, OxyContin withdrawal can result in death for unhealthy patients.

Symptoms of Withdrawal include :

diarrhea

insomnia

cold flashes

muscle pain / bone pain

restlessness

involuntary leg movement

vomiting

nausea

severe stomach cramps

Real World Withdrawal Story - "It's pure hell. The hot and cold sweats, leg cramps, some abdominal problems, diarrhea and / or vomiting. You need not only to be de-toxed, but also treated. If you are really at your end, you will do whatever it takes to get your life back. I did. I love life today. Good Luck. The withdrawals are a long 2 to 3 weeks of no sleep. I know, I've been there. That's why it's impossible to do it out-patient or at home. You have issues to deal with, and need reinforcement."

7. Agree. No compassion here and I am a COMPASSIONATE person.
But, this guy has done more to stir up hatred than anyone. It's disgusting. Ever since Rush took to the microphone, Republicans were Republicans and Democrats were Democrats and yes they disagreed, but the absolute hatred that he has spewed is revolting. "You must hate Libruls because..." I have recently been analyzing the political culture (being middle-aged) and I have never in my life seen the vitriol between parties.

I hope Rush with his GD 35Million per year goes to jail, where he belongs. He is a sick puppy. Rich, yes, but sick as hell.

3. Was Rush an IV oxycontin addict?
Did he inject, or just ingest? Oxycontin is one functional group (organic chemistry term) away from heroin. I've heard that the receptors can't really tell the difference.

4. Well, he spent $9,000 at a time on it...
It is beyond any doubt that Rush's abuse of these narcotics went WAY beyond recreational use- he is a flat-out junkie...

Every heroin abuser I have ever heard of eventually "graduates" to the needle- just as the cocaine fiend degenerates to "free-base' or "crack"...

5. Good point.
I remember reading Trainspotting. If Irvine Welsh's account of the heroin addict is accurate, I actually have some real sympathy for the guy. Except for the fact that he never had to steal to get a fix. As a result of that book, I know that as long as he has money and connections, he won't be able to stay away from the drug for long. A man with that much hate in his heart (towards political enemies, women, etc.) is a timebomb.

6. Even the mildest of mind-altering drugs should be kept from this maniac

Much less "heroin-like" narcotics. There is no telling what he might do next...

On one hand this is all so outrageous and unbelievable- that Rush is REALLY a junkie- on the other hand, part of my asks myself: "Are you really THAT suprised??"
