Anybody else grossed out by the live Jacko coverage? |

The press in this country has no standards. The protests in London. The Turkish terrorism isn't getting any coverage at all, now we have to listen to the stupid court tv moralizers when more important things are definately happening. BTW, what happened to Plame story? Why doesn't Plame sue for god's sakes?

3. Daily Show last night... |

I think Jon Stewart summed up this insanity pretty good last night. If you didn't see it, catch the rerun.

The irony (I guess) is that Jacko is a much more popular "superstar" internationally these days than he is in America. But the U.S. mainstream media knows a "hot" item when they see one.
I've been listening to all these useless, insipid TV commentators and "experts" talking about how Jacko is destined to be a "bigger story than O.J." As if they had nothing to do with this process, or with determining how much media time is devoted to it---as if they're all just objective observers. Well, d'uh!! It's going to be bigger because you asses are determined to MAKE it bigger! Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Don't believe the hype.

Yep. I remember "Off the Wall," a very good album. At the time, I think people saw him as continuing on, in some ways, from the great Stevie Wonder music of the '70s. Then came "Thriller," a huge hit when I was a teen, and an immaculately produced album. Some great stuff on that one, to be sure.
With those early, ground-breaking(and color-barrier-busting) MTV "Thriller" videos, Jackson was truly on top. And with just enough minor plastic surgery to make a graceful move into inevitable middle-age.
But then it started to get weird. And it never stopped gettting weird. And weirder... Too bad. It seems clear to me now that he needs, and has long needed, professional psychiatric help.
