Forty years is a very long time
As I contemplate the time that has passed before me, I often look back and wonder if things really would be any different. Against the backdrop of a cold and gray November afternoon, not unlike the one that was eternally etched in my fragile five-year old psyche at the time, I just have to ask: do we really live and learn?
The answer to me is fairly obvious and it is no.
As a result, we have brought about the elements of our own extinction to the forefront of our daily existence now and seem overwhelmed and sometimes down right hopeless about confronting it. After giving witness to more assassinations, rapid societal changes and advances in technology, the issue of social justice and equality for humans is still a long way off and in increasing instances, being rolled back. I guess that one single event really did change things for all of us and not for the better.
It was planned, it was calculated and it was cold.
The biggest fearful question that I have is: has the repercussion from this single event reached its climax yet? If not, when will it? What more do we, as humans must face? How much more can we take?
I have often said to those who have asked me questions that I cannot answer, “If I knew, I probably wouldn’t be here talking to you.” I have also heard and read the words of many a sage during these past forty years and they seem to offer very little in the way of succeeding towards a unified response to the struggle for social justice and human equality.
And so it continues…seemingly without end or reason.

2. In history, forty years is the blink of an eye |

And it is easy to become discouraged when you know that you may never see real justice in the world in your life. But I quote a philosopher and prophet seldom quoted, Jesus. And he said of these times; “Do not be disturbed by what you see for these are things that must come to pass (if a new era of peace is to come)…Be watchful and wait.”
