15. Hindu
I believe. He certainly has heavy connections within the Hindu communities in India.

We have several of most every religion, but their personal choices are never listed anywhere, and rarely known unless there is a specific reason for it.

The new Liberal leader, Paul Martin, about to be our next PM is an Ontario Roman Catholic...something I only know because he commented about the Pope's statement on gay marriages as an RC.

17. Really?
That is awesome. My admiration of Canada and the tolerance of the Canadian people grews each day. :toast:

In America the only religious minority that is accepted in cabinent posts are Jews, and apparently that is only among Democrats.

far as I know...like I say, no one ever asks politicians about their religion or lack thereof...so unless there is reason for it to be mentioned...no one ever thinks of it.

I know we have lots of Jews and RCs...Hindu's and Sikhs for sure, and probably Buddhists altho I'm not sure, and we have several Chinese..altho I haven't a clue what they follow individually.

I'm sure there are a couple of atheists in there, and Rahim Jaffer could be Hindu or Muslim...no idea.

On edit: Just found this saying he's a Muslim

"Alliance MP Rahim Jaffer, a Muslim, said he doesn't agree with what Mr. Solaiman had to say, but defended his right to say it. He said many in the Muslim community find the U.S. action justified. "Most leaders, whether in the Islamic community or not, want to see a resolution to this war as quick as possible and don't want to call for further things that could escalate the tensions in that region," he said."

39. Different position now is all.
"Mr. Jaffer has recently served as the interim Deputy Leader for the Canadian Alliance and presently serves as the Senior critic for National Revenue and Canada Customs (CCRA), and critic for Foreign Affairs: Central & Eastern Europe & the Middle East. Rahim is an active member of the Standing Committee for Finance and an associate member of the Standing Committees of Foreign Affairs and Official Languages."

Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 08:25 PM by BlackFrancis
He lists his religion as "Eastern Orthodox" but that's weird, most of the time you narrow that down futher when you list your religion.

I know he's Arab-American and some of the things he has done make me think he's a closeted Muslim.

I believe Lebanon was a majority Christian nation at the time his family immigrated to America, so he is probably Christian.

Edited on Fri Nov-21-03 08:49 PM by rustydog
Some CALL themselves Christians.
That doesn't make it so.
I beleive the Christian savior, Jesus never favored killing innocent people for coveted items. His Father has a little rule about it AND it WAS written in stone: Thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not covet
Thou shall not bear false witness

If Bush and his ilk are Christians... I am God.

23. NONE of them are Christians.
Evidenced by the fact that their actions, and most of their words are the total opposite of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Several of the PNACers in the Fraudministration are Jewish,(Perle, Wolfowitz, Feith, to name a few) though I couldn't tell you how "practicing" they are. Obviously the 10 commandments don't matter much to them, that much is certain. I don't think I'd want to be their Rabbi.

Cheney, of course, is a dark lord from the 9th circle of Hell.

America will not accept a non-Jewish religious minority cabinent member right now and it certainly would not accept a non-religious Secretary of State.

Powell is Episcopalian. By all accounts he's quite devout, although he seems to think it's a somewhat private matter. (I'm no Powell fan, but I certainly appreciate that.)

He is technically part of the cabinet as U.S. Trade Representative. He obviously isn't as influential as a department head like John Aschroft or Elaine Chao is but he would is officially a cabinet member and I believe he is Jewish.
