Vince Lombardi was right - "Winning is everything. It's not a sometime thing, it's an all time thing... There's only room for one place, and that's first place."
My dad had that on a plaque hanging in his office.
The point is TO WIN. Pure and simple. The methods our side has been using so far - mainly involving playing nice and abiding by the rules and not stooping to "their level" (yeah, I know, I know, we don't want to become like them).
Actually, I DO want to become like them. I WANT TO WIN. REPEAT. I WANT TO WIN. If that's what it takes to seize - and be able to heal and renew and repair and REDEEM - the national agenda, then YES. BRING 'EM ON.
It's high time we fought back. Only - we should do it with style. And good, catchy, easy-to-remember buzzphrases that roll quickly off the tongue.
I would NOT use "fascist." Too many semi-literates out there who've paid no attention to history - to whom that term would mean nothing. Furthermore, it harkens back to the demonization by the rightwing - of those of us "leftie, commie, pinko, peaceniks." It would be easy to dismiss us.
No. We need some modern day buzzphrases.
CHEAP-LABOR CONSERVATIVES is useful. Could become powerful and annoyingly sticky for the bad guys if it's repeated often enough. They'd be put on the defensive and have to explain why they aren't (as in - when did you stop beating your wife?).
CHARGE-AND-SPEND rethugs - this is a mantra that also should be repeated until it seeps deeply into the national consciousness. A good answer to their knee-jerk "tax-and-spend" derision of Dems.
Maybe also CHICKENHAWKS or DUTY-AVOIDERS, or some such term to underscore the reality that most of these avid war-mongers never bothered to get their own hands dirty when they had a chance to serve their country.
How about COUNTRY-CLUB CONSERVATIVES - to underscore that they are interested EXCLUSIVELY in looking out for the elites - and NOT you and me.
Maybe RED-INK REPUBLICANS - to emphasize how their disastrous policies are bankrupting this country and many of the people in it. Kicks the legs out from under their own oft-repeated claims that they are the party of fiscal responsibility.
Maybe RE-BLOODY-CANS? To remind people that the blood of this illegal, immoral war is on THEIR hands.
Perhaps RIGHTWING MULLAHS - to underscore the connection between the radical religious nutcases and what's supposed to be a separation-of-church-and-state government structure. In fact, we could go so far as to refer, repeatedly, to people like John Ashcroft and Orrin Hatch and Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson and all those other crackpots as the Mullah Ashcroft and the Mullah Hatch and the Mullah Falwell and the Mullah Robertson. Repeat and repeat and repeat until you've not only ensured that everybody's heard it at least once, but that it's starting to sink into the collective consciousness. Then it'll be picked up, and reacted to, and built upon.
How about "Republi-CONS"? This should be a direct and oft-repeated response to anyone who describes us as "the Democrat Party" or other sneaky-ass insinuation designed to deride and belittle. EMPHASIS on the last syllable. Somebody else posted here about the use of the word "CON." It's everything they're about, anyway. Conning the American people. Then we could extrapolate out - "Republi-CON-JOB" and "Republi-CON-ARTIST" and so on.
It's not name calling, per se. It's proper labeling. It's truth in advertising. All we're doing is calling it what it is. And calling them what they are.
on edit - forgot a couple of ideas
