2. David Wu????
I am shocked, totally shocked. He's not my Rep but I never had the slightest notion there was a Democrat in Oregon to worry about. All I can figure is that he thinks his constituents would be duped by that AARP endorsement. I think he's miscalculated horribly.

22. As a former constituent
I'm stunned as well.

Of course, after gaining his seat in a squeaker of an election in 1998, he's accumulated a huge war chest from the corporations in his district, so he may have been bought.

He has a history of missing votes (i.e., showing up for work). If I missed work as often as Gephardt does I would have been fired long ago.

I disagree with you and the RNC, I think missed votes is as phony an issue as I've ever seen.

They have a whole page dedicated to the dem candidates' missed votes, subtitled "playing hooky from work":

29. I am in a red state, and a pharma state - and our dems did NOT vote
for this. Indiana = Eli Lilly. Notice our three dems, Carson, Hill and Visclosky are NOT on the list.

Being from a red state does not necessarily equate to voting for this (anti) medicare bill.

19. They should be blacklisted/tossed from Appropriations and Ways and Means
There's got to be a punishment for voting FOR the Medicare DEATion bill...and I think a 10-year prohibition on serving on those two committees (widely viewed as the best in the House) would be a fitting punishment. Bud Cramer and Allen Boyd sit on Appropriations...I think that there are more deserving people in the House than them to get that seat. The same goes for Earl Pomeroy's seat on Ways and Means.

Is that the republicans who voted nay during the vote held fast. The stupid thing got passed by turncoat Dems. After three hours, it was four more Dems caving in, not Delay getting his people to switch. That is the worst thing about this.

I finally had to go to sleep and the vote was 218 NAY 216 YEA
There were 12 Dems voting YEA and 25 Reps voting NAY.
One Dem had already taken back his/her vote.

I woke up to 215 NAY 220 YEA...gavel down while most of the nation slept.
R=25 NAY 204 YEA
D=189 NAY 16 YEA total NAY=215 YEA=220

Dem betrayal:
I seriously want to know the names of the four Dems who defected. Or has it been posted somewhere and I missed it?

Once again, if a Repuke can't win fair and square...CHEAT!!!!

Edit: spelling Grrrrr.

39. no. Our rep is die-hard Blue Dog (his self-description)
Baron Hill. Voted against it. Note - we are also in Eli Lilly country. The Indiana delegation vote is very interesting. Something is turning.

All of the democrats including centrist (and I believe, DLC-er) Hill held firm against.

AND two republicans - Frothing Dan Burton (remember his anti-clinton tirades/investigations), and John (breast cancer = abortion) Hostettler voted against.

But watch. I bet Bayh votes for it. People will claim it is because he is from a "red" state - or gets lilly money. But, as I have said on the boards for months - Bayh has moved farther to the right than he governed, and farther to the right than he needs to - to retain his immense popularity and incumbency in Indiana. He has larger political aspirations (current chair of the DLC, and - imo - vice presidential hopeful.) Hoosiers are no longer his target audience/constituents.

he represents the famous Fighting 9th, a Democratic stronghold ... not a wealthy constituency by any means ...

I suggest exploring all 16 at places like http://www.opensecrets.org to see where campaign financing comes from; and, look at their personal finance statements.

In 2002, Boucher received about $40K from Retired groups ... but, he, also, took money from health and pharmaceuticals organizations ... he seems heavily lobbied by the Energy sector

55. What I heard on the Washington Journal
at 7:00 a.m. this morning was a journalist for the National Journal (he was on the phone). He said that Tom Delay wasn't able to get anyone to change their vote, so they had the pResident* call two Congressmen from Idaho and made them change their votes to vote against it. So it was our very own chimp-in-chief that caused this. That's why it took them almost three hours for this vote.
