A Daring Proposition: Democrats Need to Say Now Their Plan
to reform the medical and pharmaceutical industries if they are elected by the people in the next election. They should have no qualms abut telling he people that they will indeed get a national healthcare program, without the upheaval in their Medicare coverage and their prescription drug needs. This will be at the top of our agenda. Come on Democrats! Tell the people up front exactly what we will do if elected next election. We will take the middle man, the insurance companies, out of their needed medical coverage. This arrogant charade of government on this Medicare legislation is the last straw. We will give the people a choice. Now! Not later.

1. There is no plan
that is perfect, or would satisfy everyone.

If I was running I would take the approach that it is better to simply pledge to reform Medicare and produce a workable prescription benefit after getting elected.

When the press asks how I would do it, I'd tell them that my plan is irrelevant if I'm not elected. Time enough then to put it into the works. The question really is, I would say, whether or not am I more likely to look out for your interests than the radical administration now in office and pursuing an agenda of gutting Social Security, crippling medicare and bringing back the draft.

Hey, Nixon ran on a secret plan to stop the war. Why get bogged down in detailed descriptions of arcane policy issues? The other side will be hammering us as being un-American for criticising the King. That's where the action has to be.

2. Amen.
One of the first rules in politics is never to take a position on anything that could lose you more votes than it gains. Everyone remembers how it played out with Clinton's healthcare plan, and is aavoiding starting that mess again. It'll be tough enough once you get into office, why stir it up now...

Just be vague and note that the current situation sucks, and you will fix it.

Somehow.
