Will Fire Fighters no longer get overtime?
Hi all,

Just curious... With this bill being passed, will fire fighters also no longer get overtime?

1. They didn't before
At least, that's my understanding. They work shift work that requires long hours. If they worked over, they would get comp time.

2. Hmmm
I believe my dad works overtime. That's what he always calls it anyway. That's how he pays the bills...

3. I was a paramedic on a fire dept.
yes, we got overtime...in fact, we begged for it; it's the only way we could pay our bills.

Those 24/48 hour shifts are stupid though, and should be elimated.

4. Depends on the contract.
Most firefighters, and other emergency workers, around here are unionized and have pretty bulletproof contracts. I doubt the new law overrides contract provisions.

5. I thought union workers were not affected by this
I thought it was mainly about white collar workers.
