Abrams Report
ABRAMS: A predictable reaction of elation by gays and lesbians around the country in what’s being called a landmark ruling, Massachusetts’s highest court saying that the state must give gay couples the same legal rights of marriage as heterosexual unions.
JUDY, SUPPORTS MASS. RULING: Thank you very much. And mostly thank you to the Supreme Judicial Court of the state of Massachusetts for seeing what we know to be true, which is that we are a couple that is worthy of the protections of marriage, and that after 16 ½ years, Hillary and I are finally going to be able to get married and protect our family.
GARY, SUPPORTS MASS. RULING: We’ll finally be able to have the health care benefits. There’s many other legal protections that we so need to keep our families safe and secure.
<snip>
ABRAMS: Margaret, why does the state have to sort of put its stamp of approval on the marriage? Why can’t they, for example, just say, you know, either they’ll have-allow a union or some other way to get this done legally, but not to call it marriage, not to make it the same as for everyone else?
CHO: This is already offensive to me, and I am so sorry, Reverend Falwell, I’m a Christian and a big fan...<snip>
FALWELL: Well have you read Romans, chapter one - Margaret, have you read Romans, chapter one...
CHO: I don’t-now listen-excuse me, sir, I’d like to just speak, please. I think what I’m speaking of is that you are also equating bigamy with the idea that gay and lesbian couples can get married. That’s not bigamy. That’s not polygamy. That’s not...You can see more of this exchange of words here:
