EU squelches anti-semitism report because it would expose anti-semites |
|
This is beyond belief... no report because of the background of the perpetrators of anti-semitic acts against Jews. It's like saying we won't report on racism because most racists are white.
The EU shows a new low in cowardice.
EU body shelves report on anti-semitism By Bertrand Benoit in Berlin Published: November 21 2003 21:10
"The European Union's racism watchdog has shelved a report on anti-semitism because the study concluded Muslims and pro-Palestinian groups were behind many of the incidents it examined.
The Vienna-based European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) decided in February not to publish the 112-page study, a copy of which was obtained by the Financial Times, after clashing with its authors over their conclusions.
The news comes amid growing fears that there is an upsurge of anti-semitism in European Union countries. Among many recent incidents, a Jewish school near Paris was firebombed last Saturday, the same day two Istanbul synagogues were devastated by suicide truck bombs that killed 25 and wounded 300...."

3. Guess it depends on what's in the report. |
|
Obviously somebody blowing up a synagogue or a Jewish school could be considered an anti-semite. What I have a problem with are those who consider anyone who criticizes PNAC, Likud, or Sharon - or who believes in Palestinian statehood - to be on the same level as these terrorists.
There is real anti-semitism in the world, just like all the other neanderthal "isms" that the human race should have been done with decades ago. Unfortunately there also those who will create the appearance of that hatred where it does not exist, in order to suppress criticism of their own hateful and fascist agenda.

4. I strongly doubt the claims of this story. |

. I don't believe that is the reason the EU squelched it, if indeed it did.

And rightly so.
The mistake they make is blaming "Jews" instead of the state of Israel. "Jews" are not responsible for the acts of the state of Israel.
It is anti-semitic and evil to treat "Jews" as a monolithic mass and attack synagogues and innocent people. Anti-semtites can fuck off no matter what their excuse or "oppressed" status.
Please note that Nazi symbols, anti-semitism and racism is actually illegal in Germany. Germany does a pretty fair job of keeping the bigots in control although it comes at the cost of free speech.

6. What good will publishing it do? |

All it would do is inflame hatred against the most hated groups in Europe, Arabs and Muslims.
