Tear up your AARP membership card
Cut up your MBNA credit card.
Cancel your Merrill Lynch account.

Each of these organizations are actively supporting the Bush agenda. MBNA and Merrill Lynch are actually worse than the AARP, since they are big-time contributors to the campaign of Bush and other Republicans.

These groups are trying to help Bush steamroll us, and the only response they will care about is one that hits them in the pocketbook!

1. I need to find car insurance and then
I can "tear up my aarp membership card". I get the Hartford auto insurance through aarp so I think I need to do some investigating.

2. Quitting AARP...
For those of you who belong, dont just quit the AARP--get a refund on the pro-rated amount of membership left. They are giving refunds. 1 million people who get a minimal refund of $6 or so, amounts to a 6 million dollar hit on the AARP treasury. With 35 million members...the numbers turn astronomical.
Hit the AARP in their wallets--demand a refund.

6. Have you gotten a quote from GEICO or Progressive?
GEICO handles most client service through a call center rather than an agent, but their rates are much lower than the likes of State Farm in Illinois.

I know less about Progressive, but they have been sending mailings claiming to be even cheaper than GEICO, so I might ask them for a quote.

7. Thanks ..yes I have..they are much more expensive than
Hartford, alas! Progressive is really expensive..it was the first insurance I had when I got to New York and I have gotten it progressively cheaper since then. And I haven't had any tickets or anything but a perfect record.

13. AARP
AARP's collusion with the republicans has beartrapped the democrats. They are now in a position where it is "damned if they do and damned if they don't" support the legislation. It makes me sick!

Here's part of the front page from your link. Who would have thought it - there's a retired persons association for Repukes, and I now see there is one for Democrats...

New TV Spots Airing Nationally? The Alliance has launched a new television campaign to educate seniors on the Medicare bill. The ad explains why seniors should urge lawmakers to vote no. Sixty-four percent of seniors oppose the bill because it would increase payments to keep their choice of doctors and hospitals or be forced to switch to an HMO, does nothing to bring down the cost of drugs and leaves seniors with thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs. Watch a clip of the television ad! (you will need Real Player to view it). Read more >>

Bad Deal for Seniors!?On November 20, Medicare conferees announced final legislation that would privatize Medicare. The Alliance and its members believe no bill is better than a bad bill and it's not too late to defeat the measure! The Alliance is calling on older Americans everywhere to contact your members of Congress urging them to vote against this bill, which does too little to help seniors and too much to help special interests.

President Bush Addresses Empty Seats?Phoenix, AZ On November 13, about 30 Alliance activists showed up and outnumbered supporters at a sparsely attended event sponsored by Senior Voices for Medicare Choices, a group fronted by insurance companies. The event broadcast President Bush's November 13 remarks from Orlando urging Congress to push through a bill that would privatize Medicare.

on edit: It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings. Call your senators!!!
