9. at the time the group was formed
a book came out stating that Abe Lincoln was gay. I think it has been largely debunked but the name has stuck.

Sorry, I'm off-duty and could not resist the smart-ass answer.

http://www.lcr.org/

I just can’t imagine being in a group that would endorse a candidate that refuses to meet with you.

EDIT: typo in subject line

13. Remember when the LCR's were denied entrance to a GOP
convention? Was it in Texas?

Anyhow, it was a glorious moment for the party with a "tent big enough for all". I laughed until my sides ached.

6. Oh, Them
Well, the Log Cabin Republicans are a group of homosexual Republicans that are trying to gain acceptance in the Party.

Here is their website:

http://www.lcr.org/

They donated money to McCain in 2000 during the primary. There is also another group called the Republican Unity Coalition.

Their aims are sound, but would be very difficult because they would be trying to move the party to the left. Concerned Women of America (another Republican conservative organization) has been critical of them. They believe that reform comes from the inside of the party, not the outside, and that makes sense.

They had an article on them in Metro Weekly here:

http://www.lcr.org/guerriero.asp

They do plan on endorsing Bush in 2004, but it is so stupid. They didn't even criticize his Marriage Protection Week.

7. My friend, The gay Episcopal Priest...
Describes them, quite succinctly, as "Self-Loathing Faggots". He spits the words out when he says it, too. Says it's those from money and privileged backgrounds, too.

Please people, his words. Not mine. There really is a Gay Episcopal Priest. He's a hell of a fine person, too.

11. Well,
for the most part, that's my opinion too. Though I heard a speaker from a similar club, The Stonewall Republicans at a press conference on the Massachusetts ruling, and my heart went out to him. He talked about the Republican Party having a rich tradition of civil rights advocacy, and how non-intrusive government is a Republican tenant. I could really hear the struggle and pain in his voice. He wanted to take his party back from the Bush’s, Delay’s, Ashcroft’s, etc. as much as I want to, well let’s just say improve my party. He made me think, for e second, how great it would be if we ever had 2 parties we could be proud of.

8. Does anyone notice...
...that despite the inference (that Abe Lincoln was the 'first' gay republican), no one ever brings that up or calls them on it. Yet another group that rationalizes voting against their own interests.

10. It has to be the most hilarious name of any special interest group ever
"Don't let Kirk show you what he refers to as the 'captain's log'."

I don't care how juvinile it is to titter at it;
it's a helluva funny name for them.

12. I believe the origin of the name was the fact that Lincoln shared a
Log Cabin with his childhood friend Joshua Speed. They apparently slept in the same bed and there has been much conjecture over the years that Lincoln was gay. After he married, he and Speed would send each other two letters...the real letter and the one the wife could read...the real ones were very intimate sounding.

At any rate, the Log Cabin Republicans have their head in the sand about the Republican party. They are big supporters of GLBT community centers across the nation and these community centers need the money so they are apt to keep the peace with the LCC. LCC deistributes propaganda at GLBT events about how gay people are really shooting themselves in the foot by smoking...since they like to believe it is the tobacco companies funding the extremist far right agenda...I guess they have never heard of Scaife and Olin...they are basically in denial.

15. Libertarian
From what I've seen and heard of them, they'd be better off in the Libertarian Party.
