what to do with sibling freeper? |
|
i have a sister who knows that hilary is satan, wetbacks, niggers, and faggots are destroying the country, and that we should nuke cuba. she can't listen to reason because she has none. she's no more than a mimic of all those terrible hate stations. i know some of you have similar stories. i already have almost no contact with her. but is there no other way?

Just kidding.
I'm not a GOPper, so I don't advocate killing people when they become inconvenient for you to have around.

8. read the chapter in Al Franken's book |
|
on how to talk to your conservative brother-in-law
but, keep in mind that some are simply too far gone to hope for redemption.
the key is, make it about THEM--their interests, their money, their job. rather than making it about BUSH.

until she enlists in the National Guard, leaves her kids, and goes to Iraq to fight for our freedom. Until any freeper citizen does that, they should keep their warmongering opinions to themselves.

10. my brother is a freeper |
|
but.... he is also the person who raised me and taught me all the things that have made me a liberal. Prior to his time in Vietnam he wanted to be a small town doc, pay him in chickens, apple pies, he came back so different.
I am very confused when I think of him. I am thankful for being raised gentle and open-minded, but it is hard to love the person he has become. How can someone so intelligent and loving become so ignorant and hateful?

He's been a Freeper since age of 13. He helped lead the anti- anti-war protesters at Columbia University during the early 70's. He admires Andrew Sullivan and James Buckley, has mixed feelings about George Bush, but will probably vote for him again. He's good on gay issues and the war on drugs and he does have a sensitive, generous heart. But he will never budge from his stubborn support of the most radical Conservative philosophy.
We have often been mistaken for twins. Our opposing political views have been a standard joke among family friends. We love each other very much. He has always been there for me. But we can't talk about politics. We just get too worked up.
By the way, his girlfriend is a social worker and she's very liberal.

12. Ask her to clarify her positions |
|
I've found that when you confront a freeper and get them to argue in detail about their positions, they usually fall apart. Also, as Nostamj said, make your arguments about what's best for her, and not about Bush* specifically.

in any discussion, her arguments are confused and she will become exassperated without me saying anything. her thoughts are not worked out to any logical end. that is what keeps her a freep i believe. a simple lie is much easier than a complicated truth. i hate fags. nothing complicated there. o-zone depletion? this is where freeps show true colors. if they don't understand, or have no interest, or know they could never fully comprehend the complexities, then it becomes liberal propaganda. i'm sure most freeps did poorly in science classes.

17. Our sisters are twins...!!! |
|
You have my complete empathy. I have a sis who refuses to see that there is a difference in truth and an opinion. If I try to give her the truth she just keeps saying "that is your opinion". She thinks that Limbaugh is a "news program". She hates welfare for poor folks, but believes in corporate welfare (it creates jobs). If you give her a fact she cannot fit into her pre-opinion, she goes ballistics on you and starts blaming it all on Clinton, ranting and raving, like a crazy person. The sad part is this sister has a heart of gold, is honest, a valued friend, in other words a genuine good person. I go nuts trying to figure this all out and truly believe that this is what "hate-radio" does to otherwise decent people. I guess we just go on loving them. If this were just a difference in logical, reasoned, political belief, I would love it, but it is really sick and I do worry about her.

16. I have a Republican brother |
|
We almost never talk, and that's good.
I have some Republican in-laws. I consider them a necessary evil because of their relation to my wife. I don't say more than a few words to them during family get togethers. My wife's brother in-law tries to push my buttons on political issues, so I just walk away.
I used to have Republican friends and never let politics get in the way of personal relationships. After the mental disease of the rightwing agenda during the nineties, I will never be friends with a Republican again.
I have lost all touch with those Republicans whom I considered to be friends of mine during the early nineties.
