California Voters - Everyone can vote absentee!!! |
|
Edited on Thu Jul-24-03 07:46 PM by twilight
:hi: California voters!
I just happened to receive in the mail today a Voter Registration Form for the State of California that came from the Dept. of Motor vehicles.
On this form there is a box you can check for PERMANENT ABSENTEE VOTER.
It states:
"Fill in the oval and initial here __________ to become a Permanent Absentee Voter. State Law now allows any voter, who so requests, to be a Permanent Absentee Voter. Once enrolled you will automatically receive an absentee ballot for every election in which you are entitled to vote. Failure to vote in a statewide election, however, will cancel your Permanent Absentee Status (not your voter registration) and you will need to reapply for Permanent Status."
I know there was discussion about this issue a few weeks ago and I believe that this clarifies the issue.
I find no good reason not to vote unless you don't have the money for a stamp to mail the ballot back. I've heard many say they disliked and did not have the time to go the polls. So what's the new excuse besides, "I don't care? What difference does my vote make?"

and I've been voting absentee for many years.
I don't doubt my ability to fill the form out properly. It isn't complicated really.

I'm a poll worker. Absentee ballots frequently are not filled out correctly and must be discarded and therefore not counted. So this is something to be considered when promoting the increase in absentee ballots.

in Kansas are very difficult. They also do not make it very clear about the date to get them in. I have volunteered to help with these. I have heard so many stories about votes not being counted for one reason or another because of the instructions.

4. I love going to the polls... |
|
... and I hope I always feel that way.
It's entirely clear to me that there are powerful people at work trying to comlpetely undermine democracy in America. There have always been shenanigans and whatnot, but never anything this comprehensive and national.
*shrug* Now that I got myself all depressed... cheer me up. Tell me Kucinich really can win in 2004. Please?
