How can we find out how many dropped out of the AARP?
I am so fed up with them saying the the AARP endorsed the stupid bill. I dropped, but I don't know how many joined me in dropping.

3. I Doubt That You Can
I'm certain that the GOP shills running the AARP won't want to advertise a significant loss in membership.

4. I wrote a scathing letter...and droppped
If they follow through with typical right wing strategy - they will lie about the number who drop.

The indicators in order of drama...

. will be if someone who knows someone tells how many people are laid off.

. if they start paying the membership fees from their pay-off booty of right wing believers who are not already members. (Difficult to measure).

. if Romelli gets his walking papers.

. if Romelli gets his walking papers - AND - someone issues an apology.

5. They even censor their message board
There are several complaints of missing posts. I tried to post the word "donut hole". It came out "donut ####". I doubt if they'll give honest membership figures. I heard AARP's policy director on FOX yesterday who said that they had lost only a few hundred members. Liar.

I'm a member but can't get through on the phone line to quit. I want my money back. And I want to tell them why.

6. Interesting post on AARP message board links Novelli & Bush

If the information posted is accurate, could it indicate a conspiracy? or racketeering?

It seems to fit with what I've read about Gingrich and Delay carrying out plans to infiltrate advocacy groups.

People have paid for the medicare benefits. We all have money taken from us and earmarked for the benefits. Why should that money be transferred to private, for profit companies? and the why should we be forced to purchase drugs from these US companies at inflated prices and prevented from purchasing on the open market in Canada and Mexico?

7. Check out
Alliance for Retired Americans. Many of the ones who quit AARP joined that group. Bet they would be more than happy to let us know how many new members they have gotten in the last few days. I have not quit AARP. I am going to stay long enough to see if we can fight this bunch of criminals who have taken it over. I am going to join the ARA (note to self).

11. I read an article the other day that said...
that there were over 800 'complaints' (my word) on their message board the first day. I don't know if all those quit or not, but methinks their membership doth shrivel (I hate when my member does that).

12. From What I've Read At DU Earlier
Edited on Sun Nov-23-03 05:04 PM by Don_G
There is up to a half-an-hour wait to talk to a live Rep over the phone. 800 people can't tie up the phone system unless there's only one rep nationwide and only one place to call.

I hate my members too; Mitch McConnell is my Senator, his wife is Secretary of Labor and I have to take Viagra to get un-shriveled or listen to the news to get a hard-on over a Bush.

14. Novelli was quoted as saying 6000 one time.
It was either Forbes or CNBC during a interview. Another time he said 1500. I can not find the quote again.

16. Think About This.........

The number of cancelled memberships is misleading. For instance, my dad is technically
still a member of AARP. His renewal is up in January of 2004, he is not going to renew it.
So technically he is still a member, and he is counted as a member. But he is going to join
the Alliance for Retired Americans.

I heard people who tried to cancel could not get through on the phone lines, AARP
admitted to 200 calls per hour with complaints. They also said the e-mail address was
so busy they could not handle it. So they started sending out auto-replies.

And senator Graham said he got 1000 calls from seniors with complaints in one day.

My guess is thousands and thousands of AARP members have either cancelled or do
not plan to renew. We may never know the exact count, but you can bet a lot of the AARP
members have quit or they plan to quit.

The question I have is, how can the house and the senate approve a bill that 81% of
seniors oppose. Then go on tv and claim it's a good bill that seniors like. When every consumer
group in America opposes it, and almost all the seniors oppose it.

The AARP members did not support the bill, only the crooked AARP board supported it.

I guarantee you a LOT of seniors have dropped AARP.
