That he went ahead and voted for it, because they'd been debating it for years. It was now, according to him, time for the Courts to take care of it.

3. Actually, it might be a good move to let them pass |
|
the sonovabitch and let the courts rule it unconstitutional before Bush has a chance to appoint any new Supreme Court justices. Just a thought.

Three judges have already declared it unconstitutional. It's going to be one of those GOP nasty tricks, though, pandering to the religious right and to the so-called "pro-life" groups, who are really more hate groups than anything else. And no, I don't presume to know everyone's stance on abortion, choice or anything of that sort, but for a group calling itself "pro-life" to condone the actions of people killing doctors who do perform abortions, if that isn't hate, nothing is. Some of us who call ourselves pro-choice dislike abortion as much as anyone else, but to take that choice away from anyone and make it illegal again is beyond the pale. "Pro-life" groups prefer to worship a fetus more than the health and welfare of the women who are pregnant, and making whatever choice they do.

8. I've came to the conclusion... |
|
that the Repubs don't really want to win the abortion fight. They just want to argue it forever to claim some sort of moral "high ground".
Not that I agree with Daschle on this. But now the Rs got what they wanted this round. If some awful situation arises and a pregnant woman needs this procedure because her life is at risk, then the Rs will pay dearly.
I believe that they could care less about the life of the woman. If it's one of their own, they'll wisk her off to a foreign country or local "private" clinic and get it done. They're a bunch of two-faced wackos, imo.

5. There weren't enough votes to sustain a filibuster |
|
The bill passed 64-34. You need 40 votes for a filibuster.

9. its such a rare procedure |

they probably didn't want to spend political capital on it. Not that I agree, but its a very politicized issue, but in fact effects very few people.
