Laura Ingraham and the Heartland |
|
Laura Ingraham's always kissing up to the "real America, the heartland". I wonder how often she travels to the heartland when not on a book or speaking tour. Does she ever go, on her own dime, to podunk towns where Cracker Barrel really is the best restaurant in town, where when you mention Ryan Adams people say "Yeah, Summer of '69" and aren't joking, and where the karaoke DJs are so badly stocked that they don't have any Crash Test Dummies tracks for her pal Ann Coulter to sing to?
We should be hearing more about her fabulous weekends in Branson. I'm sure it beats the hell out of all those elite hangouts.

...who only knows the Heartland as flyover country.
Dartmuth College...UVA Law School...clerking for Clarence Thomas (hired for her high LSAT scores and legal skills, I'm sure :) ), she now resides in Manhatten and purports to speak for me, and others of my ilk, in Middle America.
And here's her secret: she has based her entire career on co-opting the word "elite". Seriously... Google "Laura Ingraham elite" and you'll get 2630 hits...she's obsessed with it. And, of course, it only applies to anti-Bush types, like me (a lifelong resident of the Heartland)... and never to the rich, Chickenhawk Yaleies she now pals around with.
When Newt took over Congress in 1994, he had the right wing Stink Tanks put on seminars on how to smear the Ds, and-- you guessed it-- they opined that the word "elite" should always be used to describe Democrats, whether it fit or not.
She hasn't picked up much else, but she sure as s*it picked up on that.

Her hometown Glastonbury, CT is a nice town, but it's not exactly the heartland - maybe a heartland for doctors and lawyers. Excellent *public* schools there, though.

I read or heard somewhere that "elite" used to be defined as the rich and pwerful, but is now being defined as those who view themselves and their political viewpoints as being intellectually superior to others. Has anyone else seen that too?

She fools her clueless freeper listeners into thinking that she's just the average girl next door, but the reality is that she's rich, attended an Ivy League college, and clerked for the U.S. Supreme Court (which is about as "elite" as it gets when it comes to clerkships). Not to mention the fact that she grew up in a wealthy part of Connecticut.

Is her conversion last year. She was doubtlessly already some variety of "Christian", but she converted to another brand name. (This is not "attacking somebody's FAITH".) If she was SO moved to convert, how come she hasn't become humble, for-the-LEAST-of-us, not-speaking-ILL, and all---------LIKE JESUS?????------eh????? Perhaps she just wanted to hobnob with BORK and NOVAKula. Wonder if she confesses her adulteries, like the Asa HUTCHINSON one that was carried on AT THE SAME TIME she and her co-hypocrites were pillorying CLINTON.

who she is and what she thinks? She is just a bimbo for the corporate press. Why should we give them any attention when there are so many with worthwhile things to say who can't get heard?
