Bill Frist should recuse himself from medicare debate
Frist is the senator from my state, Tennessee. His family name is all over my town because his father and family contributed mucho dinero. This is a kid who was groomed to go to congress and fight for the family business - Hospital Corporation of America HCA. A few years back this business was indicted for overbilling medicare and as most huge corporations they paid a fine and rolled on. They are still in business and although sen.frist recieves his money in a blind trust he still profits from their earnings. It is entirely in his benefit to pass this medicare legislation, money will go directly into his pockets.

2. Any procedure for recusing yourself from a Senate debate?
I never heard of one. He isn't a judge, for goodness sake.

8. Senator from Illinois recused himself on the Bankruptcy Bill in 2001
Edited on Sun Nov-23-03 11:06 PM by cosmicdot
Fitzgerald, Peter - (R - IL) ... because his family is in the banking business ... "Senator Fitzgerald (R-IL) voted present, which he has been doing on bankruptcy-related votes, in consideration of this family’s substantial holdings in the financial services industry."

one doesn't have to be a judge to recuse oneself

seems I recall a Governor in Florida who 'supposedly' recused himself from the 2000 electioneering

"Although Jeb, as Florida governor, recuses himself from official state participation in the recount, phone records later made public lead observers to question that statement" http://www.bushwatch.com/family.htm

6. Well heck,
most of the people in the Senate are lawyers. Should they all recuse themselves from making law too? CLEARLY a conflict of interest there...

7. Frist The Whore
Frist is a whore for the rich. His family's business was subjected to one of the largest fines in Americas' history for bilking the United States Government. If there was a revolution he and his family should be put up against the wall!

9. you're absolutely correct - from any vote as well
I can imagine quite a few on the Hill have a conflict if all their portfolio investments and stock holdings were put on the table ...

even Boxer has had investments in HCA ... she's tossed a lot of her investments in blind trusts recently (which included the likes of Halliburton) ... visit opensecrets.org
