daschle voted for cloture on the energy bill but that was defeated. there hasn't been a vote on the medicare bill yet. and yes we do need a new senate leader :/

Who knew? I thought that was more the three I's (Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana).
Of course, Senator Durbin (Illinois Democrat) voted against the (so-called) Energy Bill and saw right through the smoke.

he has the advantage of not needing to pander to rural people as much. The Chicago area decides elections.

...Illinois is actually interesting that way. Sure, Chicago has a lot of votes, but it's actually the suburbs that have more political clout nowadays.
