I turned 50 last week, and the old mans pragmatism gave way to the young mans hope. In October, I swept away years of benign neglect that was masquerading as “doing my part” and once again joined those in the streets. It felt wonderful, and I knew I was back home. My contempt for the illegitimate squatter was magnified 75,000 fold in the faces and actions of those I marched with, and I left with the feeling that, for me, anyway, this was only the start. There was one more big step to take.
I believe that while the people in the streets can start the fire, it is the people at the ballot boxes who can burn the house down. If I was to indeed rejoin the fray then it was time for me to put words into action, and to work not only AGAINST Bush, but FOR someone to take his place. It was time, kids, to get politically involved.
And so I did. Effective today, I have joined (as a volunteer, to start) the Clark For President campaign. Initially, I hope to be able to make 2-3 trips to New Hampshire (from my home in Virginia) for 3-5 days each, working in local offices and doing whatever is asked of me. I am hoping that this will morph into other duties as well, as I am looking forward to trying to put together speaking engagements, town hall meetings, and the like. I lived in NH for many years prior to moving, and have many friends there who I believe would like to hear what my candidate has to say. I’ll continue to work in Virginia as well, but it seems as if NH is the place to be right now.
For those of you supporting Clark, you can understand what I am feeling now. I honestly believe he is the ONLY candidate out there who can beat Bush, but most importantly I believe in him. I think I know what a candidate has to have in these times, and Wes Clark has it. In spades.
I know many others on this board feel this passion for Clark, but many others do not. If you do not, that is fine. Passion to rid this nation of Bush is enough to unite us under one umbrella, so let us do that, and only that. Please do not engage in candidate bashing with me – I will have none of that. Fight hard for your candidate, as I will for mine. Know well that should your candidate win, I will be there for him/her with all the energy I can muster. Please do the same for Clark if it comes to that. When we finally elect our candidate, focus that energy on removing the squatter from office. Shout from the rooftops, whisper from the church pews, and bring the undecided voters along one vote at a time. I recall a saying told to me many years ago – “each one teach one.” Use that as our mantra and Bush goes down.
I’m excited for what stands before me, and perhaps I’ll see some of you along the way. I’ll try and relay what I see, and let you know (well, kinda) firsthand what is happening out there. Until then, stay united against the enemy. We got a shot here, we really do. Hell, I feel 25 again, and that ain’t bad
